LET BETTER SENSE PREVAIL! by Joel Morais, Cuncolim

We all are different people with different thoughts. Our thoughts never matched and will never match in totality. As far as the progress our Mai Goa is concerned, we all need to be extra vigilant. Presently, we witness the state of affairs in Goa and remain dumb and if we continue with our same behavior our next generation will curse us.
People like me will have to seriously think of something else which I really don’t intend to think of at this stage. This one time beautiful state of Goa which was once known as a lake of peace, Orient of the West has changed from best to bad. Recently, we are marching towards the worst. In recent times truth has mostly failed to stand against money and muscle power in Goa. Murders, false promises, lies, drugs, prostitution, etc. all involving police, politicians and their kins have become a routine happening in Goa.
I am a proud Goemkar, I love my language Konkani, it is there in my blood and it comes in each Niz Goenkar through our mother’s milk. In reality nobody can force our children to learn the same in the school if they don’t wish to. There was one time Konkani medium schools never existed in Goa but latter some political fanatics forced the unaided English medium primary schools to change to Konkani medium in the name the government grants. If the government continues its aid to Marathi medium Primary schools, what is the problem to grant the aid to the English medium schools?
The case is very clear, there is no problem with regards to the aid to the Marathi medium primary schools so people like old Shashikala Tai, the two catholic priests, etc are all out for Konkani medium schools and joining them presently is the great Ramdev Baba. There is no doubt about the Archdiocese and convent schools favoring English as the medium of Education at the primary level. The government should not have any problems in granting aid to English medium schools as well continuing the same to Konkani and Marathi medium schools. Let the parents decide in which schools their children should study?
Fanatics like Shashikala Tai, Karmali, Father Jaime, Fr Mousinho and a few others cannot decide the future of our children. Let us parents decide what is good for the future of our children, advance our children towards their future in a planned, personal and meaningful way.
Remember, choosing the right to educate the child in the best possible way is the right of the parents. Education is not government property. You may have rights over property as an extension of yourself, but a child's upbringing is not property of the government or the fanatics. It is the duty of every parent and hence the choice made by the parents is ultimate.

  1. Joel hit the nail on the head! Nobody can compel parents on their children’s education. Joel you have put your point across befittingly and intelligently. While there may be logically and sensible arguments propounding Konkani as the medium of primary education the truth of the matter is that across the world English has been the mainstay of practically every western Country’s fulcrum of job opportunities‘. I have known brilliant Goans whose success dwindled in the worlds job arena due to lack of the ability to communicate in simple spoken and written English. We need to make a studied choice of how to educate our children and as parents we have to make that choice. English or Konkani?

Well written Joel!, education is not Govt. asset nor grant in aid. As a tax payer it is my money, your money and everyone's share and bloody govt. has no right to take children for granted. People should remain vigilant and should be aware that marathi protagonist are out again to disturb peace in Goa, these are the same people who betrayed Goa and Goans at the time of Opinion Poll and are trying their level best to push Goa into Maharashtra through back door. Their bodies may be in Goa but heart and sole is in Maharashtra and that is the reason they are out to create noise and along with them some of our priest sitting on the dais.

Goans in general are a clever and intelligent race. They are also most noted for being industrious in the face of adversity.
If they have no jobs as the Govt. cannot provide it, due to corruption, they will open a small shop,a small business or conduct a cottage trade or even make huge sacrifices to go abroad to earn a living.
What is paramount to them, is ,that they give their families and most specially their children, a decent standard of living.
ask any parent "WHY DO THE DO WHAT THEY DO ?"...and the simple and purest answer will be "I DO IT FOR MY CHILDREN" and "FOR THE BENEFIT OF SOCIETY IN GENERAL" .
They have never depended on any Goan Government to provide them with good governance In the last 50 years.
Instead, most Goans will candidly and openly tell you ,that their expreience of Goa Governance is very , very ,corrupt to the core or bone. The Governmemt caters for the few ...not the many.It PRACTICES the "DONKEYS DEMOCRACY".
Go to any village in Goa, and the locals and inhabitants will tell you that the Goa Govt. is run by "Chors" (Theives & looters").Add to this Rapists ,looters and self-idolators.
The biggest self-idolator is none other than Churchill Alemao.Like the Dictators that are currently being thrown out in the Arab countries, Churchill loves to see his face plastered in every Newspaper.Given half a chance he would replace the tag "MADE IN INDIA" & INSTEAD have his photo plastered or pinned to every coconut tree in Goa.His biggest photo would be at the Legislature and the Raheja project.Accompanying this photo of himself ,would be a footnote OR TAG stating "MADE BY CHURCHILL" & "COMMISSIONED BY CHURCHILL".I will let readers decide what "Commissioned" implies.
These so called bogeyman and boguses like Karmali, Padre MOUSINHO,Shashikala Kakodkar, Baba Ramdev do not have a huge & credible support base.
Baba Ramdev is another big fake Pig.He was only educated to 8th Standard in Harayana. All that he does to elevate him self to a Guru or svengali or sadhu, is to prey on people with emotional problems or those that are unhappy. He believes that he has an elixir to cure them of their unhapiness and emotional disturnbances. It is the weak that are attracted to his cult.He like many other fake Guru`s are propelled by money,Sex,group sex and insatiable sexual appetites. There are many true Sadhus /Gurus...he certainly is not one.He uses "brainwashing " techinques to get a cult following.

So in order to keep themselves in the limelight, they keep coming out with their views on controversial issues.Their views are based on the past and not the future.Their thinking is backward.
So it is my strong belief , that Goans once again will rise above such stupidity ,and will ensure that their children will receive the best education, in a medium of teaching that will make them most productive.
They will once again make ultimate sacrifices to give their children, what the belief is in their best interest.
They will bypass all these idiots that preach a narrow minded view of educational mediums.
In the course of time Goans will again rise out of all the adversity thrown at them.
One must remember it is the Ordinary Goans that have made Goa what it is...not the Government, bogeymen. loudmouths or layabouts.
In conclusion, all I say to my Goan bretheren...."TOGETHER WE WILL OVERCOME".

The Maharashtrawadis will want continuation of grants only to vernacular schools because of their hidden agenda. If grants are extended to English medium schools, there might be an exodus of students from Marathi medium to English. More people with Marathi, the merger of Goa into Maharashtra will be easier if Maharashtra manages to get hold of Belgaum District and surrounding areas.
    We must be vigilant.
