GOVT TO TAKE STERN STEPS AGAINST THE STRIKING GOVT EMPLOYEES

PANJIM: The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat, has warned the state government employees, now on indefinite pen/tool down strike, to immediately withdraw the strike failing which he added that the government would take stern action.
Responding to the issues raised by the members of the state legislative assembly during discussion on demands for the General Administration Department, Mr Kamat said that the government had given all the rights to its employees and that they did not have moral right to go on strike.
He said that despite not in so good financial conditions, his government gave the state employees the benefits of the Sixth Pay Commission and that there was no need for them to go on strike to get "additional" benefits.  He further said that Goa was one of the first five states to grant Sixth Pay Commission benefits to its employees.
Stating that the strike by the government employees was not in the interest of the state he called the employees to immediately end the strike, adding that the government had not deprived the employees of their rights.
He said that the government would take a decision on the demands of the employees after receiving the report from the Law Secretary. He also said that the government would rectify the anomalies, if any.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary, Mr Sanjay Kumar Shrivastava held a meeting with the delegation of Goa Government Employees Association, led by Mr M L Shetkar, and called upon them to withdraw their call for indefinite strike in view of ongoing Assembly session.
The Chief Secretary informed the delegation that the report of the committee constituted under Law Secretary had not been received by the government as yet and that the Law Secretary had been advised to submit the report immediately after the Assembly session was over following which an appropriate decision would be taken in the matter.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat, Tuesday informed the state legislative assembly that the government had revised the buildings regulations making it compulsory for the builders/promoters to provide for parking for each and every flat or shop in the new buildings.
Responding to the issues raised by the MLAs during discussion on demands for Town and country Planning Department, he said that though the regulation was notified some mistakes that crept in it were being corrected and a corrected notification would be issued soon. He also said that all safeguards as regards to provision of parking and other facilities would be incorporated in the new notification.
The Chief Minister further said that the outline development plans for three planning and development authorities had been notified and each PDA had been told to prepare comprehensive development plans to provide for all essential requirements.
