MEET AT LOHIA MOIDAN FOR MOI: FORCE OVERRIDES DREAMS OF THE MARATHI LOBBY AT LOHIA MAIDAN

MARGAO 13th April: Another day to be reckoned int he history of Goa after the mass gathering in favour of the Opinion Poll, Statehood and the language agitations in the past that bore fruits is today's meeting at Lohia Maidan, Margao called in by the Forum For Rights Of Children's Education (FORCE) demanding inclusion of English as Medium of Instruction in every school including Govt. aided schools in Goa.
Not bothered by the scorching heat, the parents made their presence felt from 2.30 pm although the meeting was scheduled to start at 03.00 pm and that showed great enthusiasm amongst the organisers who were upbeat with the response. By the next 15 minutes, the crowed was swelling and right in time for the meeting to start, it rose over 15,000 in numbers. If it was not the space constraints, it would have swelled more, remarked some of the parents who gathered there in response to the call. Compere Xavier Fernandes read out the manifest and the program started with Konkani songs sung by renowned artists like Succour D' Santa Cruz followed by another few Konkani songs entertaining the crowd. Xavier later introduced the speakers and Premanand Naik, Convenor followed by Savio Lopes, General Secretary, M/s Cynthia Costa Fernandes, Edgar Cota, Mariano Araujo, Bashir Ahmed blasted the government one after another with a thunderous applause from the public. Every now and then, the speakers were applauded for their outburst against the government. Savio asked the Goan Educationists to wake up and get educated. The Marathi lobby was heavily criticised for their double standards in the education policy.
The Forum sent a clear call to the government to heed the call of the parents and to allow them to make their own choice or the will of the people will be done even if we have to shed blood on the streets for the sake of our children. The crowed roared in one voice and pledged full cooperation and support and showed willingness to come on the streets if it is required.
Compere Xavier Fernandes and the Organisers made a special mention of NIZ GOENKAR pointing to the huge banner displayed in front of the public ensuring them that the news, photos and their response will be arrived live throughout the World and asked every Goenkar to log on and post comments on different articles concerning Goa and make their dream come true of being heard.
It was also seen that before the meeting could end, the Ex-Tourism Minister Mickey Pacheco made his presence felt amongst the crowd amidst some ugly comments passed at him by a few overheard by the public. He was seen being seriously listening to the speakers blasting the Digambar Kamat government, one after another. The meeting ended on a humorous but serious note with a strong warning to the government.

This was the largest gathering I had ever seen at a meeting. Thanks to FORCE and its supporters and hope this message is taken not only in every corner of Goa but world wide. I appeal to the young generation that will one day become parents to come our in FORCE and support this cause for generations to come.

  5. This is the right moment to make history as far as the Congress govt. is concerned. Salcete brought them to power again and again. And now they are taking them for granted. If they don't listen now, very soon we will have an opportunity to kick them out forever from the Goan soil for good. Let's stand united as we have stood today and teach lesson to these chors who rule us. Niz Goemkar will lead Goans to freedom as it is done in Egypt, Yemen,& Libya by Information technology ..Long live Goa and Niz Goenkar.

  6. We have heard the statements of so-called “experts” and “educationists”. We have no fight with them. But they are not the parents of our children. We, and our children, will bear the consequences of our decision.

  7. I shed a tear after seeing the unity for a cause by my brothers and sisters. I pray everyday that my Goa will shine as before. I cannot do much to help on ground zero. but if required I will shed my blood for you Goa, for you have given me everything. Come on my Hindu ,Muslim and Catholic Goan brothers and sisters it is time to make our voices heard. It is time to make the imbeciles know we will not be forced into the darkness but that we will stand and have our way and save Goa for our children...Viva Goa.. Viva Niz Goenkar....Viva Gra.....Viva Force

My only wish and hope that these very same people who are seen in the pictures above will not change their mindset by accepting few notes during coming election time to elect same crook bas..rds. And I hope the same enthusiasm and tempo will be carried forward during election time to throw out all the 40's crooks who makes common people's life miserable by forcing the masses to come to street every now and then. This is the lesson for those who rally behind these corrupt born bas..rd rogues politicians. Never ever trust CHORCHIL pig of Varca, he is like Chameleon who changes color as and when he requires only to fool people for his self benefit.

  9. Why system called Democracy has Vindicated us so much so that with our own consent we are over ruled!!!..Why did we get educated Goans when we dont know how to change this DEMOCRATIC PHYCOSIS of Wage Slavery?? Why cant we vote for MLA /MP only for maintainence of our state atleast they will share crumbs?? treat them like our servants
    THE SOLUTION
Then conduct refferundum for next five year plan on development on Fixed Budget with the consent of Goans with right to recall the goverment if the deadlines are not met
Instead of MLA playing the dancing chair game and horse trading with shadow goverment.
So that for Goans it doesnt matter which goverment or who comes into power as long as the 5 year elected plan with approved budget by people of Goa interests are taken care off.
The system needs proper overhaul rather then following 1947 pattern of Democratic Legislative Assembly forming gangs of theives to loot and install OLIGHARCHY.,,,, BROTHERS - GOANS HOW LONG YOU WILL COME OUT ON THE STREET..WHAT IS OUR LIFE IN GOA??? WE HAVE TO RESTRUCTURE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM AND NOT MAKE PIECE MEAL POLICIES THAT WILL LIVE A LOOPHOLE TO ANNILIATE WHATEVER DECISION WE MAKE...
I AM WRTIING BECOZ I WAS EDUCATED IN ENGLISH IN PSC-NAVELIM GOA ALLOWED BY MY PARENT..

  10. Right FORCE at the right time. We don't have much time left. If Salcette has shown the way, all should join them and show our unity. Most of the corrupt ones come from Salcette. If we throw them out now, small rats from other areas will have no chance.

It was indeed a strong view whilst the BJP groups were standing behind our FORCE counters., I just want to make a strong comment, the next time we stand in power like 13th of April 2011 can we keep the comedies or jokes aside. See we are sharing and stressing a very serious topic here, not to mention i request Premanand Naik to seriously stop thinks like jokes on the stage to make people laugh. we mean business on this topic of Medium of Instruction and we parents are in pain cause of this, we cant laugh now for petty jokes on stage. We must get the parents geared up for a serious rally.... excuse my note but I am all in support for the FORCE to go marching ahead. we love the konkni or marathi people too but we dont love their uneducated stupidity---- God be with us

Goan Children are Goa's Future let is demand the rights for our future. English and Konkani will equip our children to be better leaders in our Goa. My appeal to FORCE do not give up, if it means coming to the streets of Goa at my age is in the 60s I will come too. Who ever wants other languages should go back to their states.

  14. I am totally enlighted to see the big banner of NIZ GOENKAR at the rally at Margao. Let the chamchas and the crumb eaters of the filthy politicians read the NIZ GOENKAR'S columns every day to the politicians as most of the politicians are UNPADD. The NIZ GOENKAR blogs will reap the politicians and their chamchas very soon. I am very happy that more and more people coming on the road to show their dissension to the chor congress government policies.

Although Goans are being outnumbered Goa belongs to Goans, Our MInisters do not see it that way, to fill their pockets they have sold Pieces of Goa to Non-Goans. How can we let school drop outs to run Goan affairs?
Regardless of our religion Goans must unite and support FORCE for the sake of our children who are the future of Goa.Can we achieve that Goal?.

  16. the right of the parents to choose the Medium of Instruction in aided primary schools in Goa : English is to be included among Konkani and Marathi as the choices, so that the rich and the poor are given equal access to opportunities.
Why 80% of our Ministers / MLAs send their children to English Medium ?

Very good support for the cause dear to all of us. Congratulations to the organizers as also to the people who attended. The message may go far and wide, worldwide, but it must go forcefully to the government and to the 40 MLAs.

The unity has to be maintained. The protagonists of Marathi as the medium of instruction who are also the supporters of merger of Goa into Maharashtra, led by their Convenor, are proposing to start village and taluka level committees to disseminate wrong information and create confusion and misconception in the minds of the people.

FORCE should also make a forceful campaign to counter the BBSM campaign.

Hopefully, the rally will open the eyes of the ministers and MLAs and make the government see reason. The FORCEful demand of the parents should convince government to accept the demand before the start of the new academic year.

The present status quo policy is a divide and rule policy of the government to separate the parents. The MLA's/ministers who had attended the FORCE rally at Panjim are traitors and need to be kicked out from their seats. They did not have the guts to attend the Margao rally because the people have realised their tricks. It is another tactic of the same ministers to keep this issue in cold storage till next elections to confuse and fool the parents like they did last elections. Goan parents should not succumb to thier tactics. FORCE has to come out more strongly and show that we have teeth also and can bite with our teeth rather than only bark. The government has to be shown we are serious about this and nothing less than English from elemntary stage is acceptable. We expect FORCE to keep upto their promises made to the public. Viva Goenkar!

Lil girl BEYONCE who made headline on the Herald front page on 14th April was all energetic and lively at the meeting expecting the governmetn to hear her voice by displaying the playcard.
I hope the government and the forces opposed to English sees through the eyes of Beyonce.

  20. It was a huge turnout, a message to the gov. that to keep the medium issue as it is. this is the right time to put pressure on the gov. as the elections are nearing such huge gathering will make it nervous.
My request to the goans not to be fooled by the marathi lobby who has become konkni lovers overtime. This is another conspiracy played by them to fool the goan christian especially after devnagri was impose on us.

  21. You are right Buyarantlea mhonxea. This was what was happening till date, the very same people have voted these bastards to power and they will do it again. This MOI is only an issue whether it will be tackled or not you will see come the election and they will disperse to vote again for their favorite illiterates who of course will be forced on them by their Party High Command whether it is Congress or BJP (not excluding the regional UGDP and Save Goa Party who surfaces only during the election period like yellow Frogs that turns up at the start of Monsoons) and our people will say we have no choice but to vote for them even if we don't like them. This has happened and it will surely happen again. MOI is only an unity issue, such issues does not hold them together to vote for a right candidate. Sometimes the very same people do not look for changes, they look for temporary gifts and favours without realizing that these favours and gifts are only for the sake of winning the elections and once the elections are over the winner will not even visit them to know what need they have and what he can do for the people. Why? because, He has bought even their soul by favouring them with their gifts and favours. People are fully paid then and that's it. I wish such Unity remains during the election time and kick out all the present set of 40 chors and looters that include the scam-esters and tainted ministers and all those who sold Goa for 30 paise, also those who said: "I dont need Goan votes" and "Goans are like pigs". Because when in Unity only WE THE PEOPLE CAN VOTE THEM OUT. Such Unity also required to force upon the Elected ones to pass the Bill on the Floor: i.e. "NO MORE THAN TWO TERMS FOR AN ELECTED whether it is for Vidhan Sabha, Lokh Sabha or even at Panchayat elections. Because these Two or even one term is sufficient/enough for an elected to get totally corrupt. And if Goans want to save for Goans then again such Unity is required to force upon the Elected to pass a bill on the floor to cancel all the migrants voting cards/rights to elect a Govt for Goans. As the Govt should of the Goans, by the Goans for the Goans and definitely not Govt for the Goans by the Migrants. Will such UNITY be possible?

Konkani is our mother tongue and English is an international language, both these should be the taught in schools as the only language. Others who want different languages in Goa should go to those states. How many states in India teach Konkani but all teach English as to secure a better future for their children. Let us fight and support FORCE for what we want, and not what the Government imposes upon US.

It is not just Christians , but also Hindus and Muslims.
I am sure a lot of the people gathered at this meet are Marathi Speaking ,who wish for no more than their children to succeed in the wider world....not just India. The see English as a way forward.

  31. Konkani is like our mother and English is like our wives. We should not get confused between the two. We love our mother to our hearts and she is inseparable and we prefer to keep her at home. But English is like our wife with whom we have to live the rest of our lives and we have to move everywhere. People who are against English and favour Konkani as the medium are confused whether they want to have their mother or their wife in bed. Anyone expressing dissent on my view?

  32. Exactly! These guys will eventually push Marathi forward and Konkani will take a back seat and be slowly phased out. Marathi has no place in Goa. Every border of every country, state people speak dual languages because they interact with their neighbours. That does not mean that the neighbours language is slowly made the local language because they start squatting on our land.

Goans now should unite and kick out all the rogues in power. Goans should also kick out the marathi fellows trying to promote marathi in Goa. Our language is Konkani and not marathi, those who want marathi should go and settle in maharashtra, likewise Mr Shivaji Bhonsle is not a Goan to be honoured in Goa. There are Goan heroes to be honoured in Goa and not the traitor Bandodkar.

Ali Baba & his forting theives might be just laughing at us, as we are good bloggers & are thaughts are good as well. They are aware that Goans have limitations like V are susagad, good hearted & peace loving people that has led us in a situation V are in today. Shame on us see people of Damman, even now most of them speak Portuguese. Unity such as these & Volumes can go a long way in teaching Mr. Dengue Cowmuth & his 40 illigimate sons a lesson not to contest elections again. To Buyrantlomonis:::MOI is not just a dream of Niz Goenkar. It is a dream of many forward thinking Goans of all shades.
In many ways English is a Passport to success in the Job`s market.
I have to advise you that comments here are read by the MLA`s.Of course, many cannot read in English, but rest assured their children or friends inform them of what we say and what we think.
I can also assure you that they are not laughing at Niz Goenkar. Many feel threathened.Perhaps you may know that many of them were attacked on Herald, that, i the end the MLA`s applied pressure on Herald to close the comments section down.
It will not be easy, to overnight ,succeed .But we must keep having hope and aspire for what we feel is right.
Very soon many MLA`s will have to retire, either through ill health, criminal convictions or old age .
Lets us hope that the new members will be educated firstly and of good intergrity.

  38. Rightly said Clunha. "Every border of every country/state people speak dual languages, because they interact with their neighbours" as in the north Goa is neighboured by Maharashtra that is why Goans in the north there is an influence of Marathi on them. Besides this there are lots of smuggled and border crossed Maharastrians which "Sankuar boson boson Gaumkar zal'le" lot and these are the very same (non-Goan) people who want us to believe Marathi also is the language of Goa and Goans.

Dear N.Fernandes. of course Niz Goenkar is popular and well liked site. We had a history subject in school which educated us about the sacrifices done by the Indian freedom fighters towards the independence of India & nothing was spoken about Goa. Even Bastard Bandodcar was praised Regretably by our teachers who happened to be priests & nuns as our teachers for this subject.personally I have learnt such a lot from each and every commentator (would like to mention about Vassalo De Silva through Pedro. as far as Goa is concerned We should have his statue in place of b****t****d Bandodcar so also Dotor Jack Sequeira if not next to him , some where in Panjim) I do enjoy reading comments from this site but my real enjoyment would be to see an Independent Goa before I die. As long as i live Niz Goenkar will have my unconditional support & I request Bebdo to contribute more educational articles about Goa.

I guess, what was taught to you in Goan schools, was the "Curriculum" set up by the State Eduation Board of Poona( Pune).
I am led to believe, that Goa now, has its own State Education Board.
The problem we Goans will have here is, "who dominates this Board"?.
It is very obvious to anyone, with even the least commn sense, that Bandodkar and now his derelict and lunatic daughter Shashikala were no patriots of Goa ...but of Maharastra instead.
Had Bandodkar succeeded in merging Goa with Maharastra, Goa would be a District of Maharastra.
This District would have been run like a Panchayat body. The Chief Minister would be called Sarpanch and the cabinet Panch`s.

  41. MOI is parent’s choice, as we live in a democratic country. We love Konkani and our mother tongue has got nothing to do with our children education. Some are trying to save the mother tongue. Where is the mother (our land) my dear Goans? It has been sold to all Ganttis. We niz Goans cannot even afford to buy a piece of land. Very soon we will have MLA’s/MP from different states. Our minister’s are not realizing this. A day will come on Goan MLA’s/MP to stand in front of these outsiders with their own demands. Our corrupt form of Government has finished Goa and Goans. Today Goa is bleeding but these idiots cannot see this. Very soon we will see schools of different languages in Goa. FORCE, please don’t give up this campaign. 44. People and Goa and Parents fighting for English BEWARE. Looks like FORCE is no more a force to reckon with as they seem to be only a bunch of guys without any plan of action. They have failed to realise the gravity of the situation. Look at the residents of Khariwado, Vasco they could achieve what everyone thought was impossible. FORCE looks like are only interested in publicity and giving speeches. Margao rally was like a musical show without any direction for their agitation. They seem to be shy of divulging their plan and shy of setting up any future deadline. Mysteriouisly Margao rally did not have any representatives from Salcete. WHAT ARE YOU UPTO FORCE? CAN YOU LEAD AND ACHIEVE WHAT WE HAVE SET OUT OR RU JUST GIVING THE PARENTS A BIG KLPD????????

  45. N.Fernandes-London17 April 2011 at 00:19

    Hi Allwyn:::
    I will disagree with you.
The fact that this Rally took place was an acheivement in tiself.
It certainly made headlines on all Local Goan Newspapers.
It has been featured of GoanvoiceUk.
I am sure many Gulf Goans were made aware of the meeting throught Telephone calls with their family back in Goa
Additionaly, you must agree that each an everyone that attended this meeting, would have spread it among other Parents and concerned citizens that couldn`t attend.
If FORCE is ony interested in Publicity,...then you must see it as a POSITIVE move.Publicity cannot be made "without" speeches.
You must give credit to all the concerned mothers that attended the meet.
Following this rally...Mickky Pacheco and Churchill have made public remarks.
However as far as Churchill is concerned....I doubt his integrity.
    Going slightly off-topic.....
Churchill does not need to learn English. He can afford to "buy" an English education Certifiicate, like he has purchased Degrees for his Big Lipped daughter Valanka and Pilot Licences for his son.
Also note , his children are no longer actively practising their chosen careers.Instead they have become "Dynamic" Social Workers.
I can also quite confidently advise you , that if you promised Churchill Crores of Rupees AND A SCHOOL NAMED AFTER HIM to favour Marathi...he will not waste his time and ditch English as a medium.
He is like a "FAIR WEATHER COCK" & A "time server".
The Alemao family are a "Cancer" on Goa and Goan Society.

  46. Your reply misses the core point of my view. What do FORCE upto next? Do we wait for the next academic year to start and expect the andrenaline rushing though us to subside. The govt will not give in by publicity speeches and theatrics at rallies They have to be forced and for that we expect FORCE to lead the way. But sadly my repeated appeals through Herald column and a public appeal at their rally at Varca seem to have not paid off. We require action as the parents are frustrated. The situation in Goa cannot be judged from London Mr. Fernandes.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I was at the rally. The schools were closed after exams. To contact parents was difficult. Yet the crowd that turned up at Lohia maidan proved one thing- The parents will go to any extent to see that their children are not destroyed . Over 120 English medium primary schools, Why ? Only for the Rich ? Or a big business for the Bhaticars who want the poor to be educated in Konkani to protect our Culture ? FORCE is doing a good job. Dont get impatient. In June the schools will reopen and we will get a much bigger Tsunami of parents. Alibaba and his gang have got the message... ENGLISH OR PERISH.

  48. N.Fernandes-London17 April 2011 at 10:58

I once again politely differ with you.
If the alternative, of the attendees, was to just sit quietly at home and build "English medium castles in the air",then there would be no publicity.
Following the Rally, the Government has taken note of dissentand so have a few MLA`s.
Theatrics, humour and speeches are good mediums of communications. The alternate to this, as per you view is "SILENCE"
.Perhaps a sermon , which bores many people, like ones preached in Church, is your style and appeals to you.
From what I heard, beside the theatrics , there was a positive message.
Perhaps you need to look into your impatience.I do not have any inside information, neither am I privy to what FORCE will do next.
However if you do have any info, please share it with us all.

What makes you think that I cannot judge things from London.
I have access to Niz-Goenkar, all the news, the internet and most of all friends and relatives in Goa who keep me informed of their views and feelings.
I can assure I do not live in an Oasis in the desert or an igloo in Greenland.

  49. FORCE comprising of 5 people as seen on the stage will not be able to achieve anything by themselves. The actual force are the parents and they are already being motivated. You have to agree that not all the parents are willing to come on the streets or be a part of the actual force. We need to come on the streets and protest silently. Some parents as heard and seen by myself are very reluctant because they have other priorities and this business of agitating should be done by others, they just want to see the results or talk and talk but nothing. This is everyone's business and all should come forward and not just 5 or 6. These 5 or 6 have motivated and let us not sleep and wait for the government to make it happen. The government of Kamat is sleeping on these issues as they are busy settling scores with each others in the cabinet of Chors or hiding their ill gotten wealth on a daily basis. Kamat himself is busy doing trips to Delhi to deliver the loot and obtaining advice from Sona (Gold) memsab on how to run Goa.
@N. Fernandes....though he may be in London, I can vouch for him that he is in touch with many in Goa including myself on issues of concern for Goans and has a huge contribution for social causes. His articles and comments has been of great value for a good mind to see reality, in educating many who were in the group of sh*t eaters of the politicians.

  50. I sincerely appreciate your views and I would suggest like minded citizens to come forward and form a forum against corruption and issues of interest common to Goa. The internet is the best way for that. Simply blaming the politicians is not the solution as we have to find out the root cause of them getting reelected repeatedly. We require a forum as strong as MNS in Maharashtra to preserve the Goan identity and our values. In criticizing the films we are are acting as hypocrites as we are not able to face the truth of what's happening in Goa.
In my opininon ,majority of the parents are willing to do sacrifices and lets not blame the dormant. We as Goans if we are united can change the things that are happening in Goa.
If the people of Egypt can spend 15 days at Cairo's Tahiri square to overthrow Mr. Mubarak or if people are ready to die in other Arab countries for achieving their goals, Can we expect the Goa govt. to deliver our wishes on English medium on a silver platter?
