Very soon, Goa will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its so-called freedom. But what we achieved in these 50 years is a mystery. We still have the narrow roads built by the Portuguese. But there is more and more pollution everywhere.
Our rivers, the Zuari and Mandovi, which once upon a time were full of pristine waters, are today loaded with filth and silt. Goa has around 400 barges. Each has a crew of 10, making a total of around 4,000 personnel. These barges may have or may not have toilets, but human excreta and other waste is directly dumped into the rivers.
Goa has many casinos, but except one or two, none have sewage treatment plants on board. They keep excreta in holding tanks, which they empty in the river on the quiet. Hundreds of trawlers are also in the same practice.
It is high time the concerned authorities give these urgent matters a thought, rather than constructing a bridge connecting Mormugao to Dona Paula, which is absolutely unnecessary and a waste of public money.
I think the best people to purify the seas & rivers in Goa are the so called 'Karmali's FF company'.

ReplyDeleteI will be only too happy to give Karmali a couple of spades and buckets (any size ,any colour) to clean up the Rivers of Goa.
Once KArmali has "purified the rivers", we can then all invoke God to cleanse them.
However along with the Rivers, Goa needs to exterminate & fumigate the VERMIN like Karmali.
It is high time we send a sample of water for testing in any of Karmali's laboratory. And better still if we give him another sample to drink. If he is very good for purification please send him to River Ganges. There is filth and human dead bodies dumped there by his kind. The Indian govt. wants to spend crores of rupees to purify the same. This f**king so called freedom fighter should be utilised as we are paying him his pension.
