Some people allege that Goans had no freedom and were treated like slaves during the colonial regime but at least during that period the properties of all our Goans were safe. Today, we have freedom and what not but our own elected people are auctioning Goa to the highest bidder. They are virtually selling almost everything in Goa including agricultural lands, ancestral homes through manipulations.
Now, what kind of freedom is this? In my personal opinion, if people are still praising the Portuguese in Goa then its only because they were practically wonderful administrators who treated this sacred land of ours like their very own. They use to protect Goa from neighboring invaders and in spite of being foreigners; they never went to sell our vast lands but on the contrary protected them by introducing various tough laws in Goa e. g. Communidades etc.
The best part about them was that they never allowed people from other states to illegally settle and to hijack Goa unlike our current so-called Indian rulers who only think of making a fast buck by selling Goa. Today, if Goa is regarded as the Number one tourist destination in the world we need to thank the Portuguese for it. Our Goan identity was preserved under the 450 years of Portuguese rule. Forget the distorted history of the Sangh Parivar on Inquisition; the Portuguese have done far more greater things for Goans then anyone else in Goa. In fact, these people introduced us to the game of football. We were exposed to the world of Western music. Similarly our distinct spicy cuisine was popularized by them. They have taught us to be a liberal-minded people and to respect the global culture of the world. I dont think the people who praise their former colonial rulers should be treated as anti-nationals but the people who support communalism and who divide their own citizens in the name of caste, creed and religion. They are the real anti-national people who are the real threat for this secular nation of ours.
What can the Goans judge! We have the dirtbag Naguesh Karmali and the communalist BJP judging Goa isn't that enough? I suggest that we should fight another battle also. We have to get the pension of the freedom fighters scrapped as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteWhat freedom? Freedom to loot, rape and murder. Goa's prime properties and assets are looted by the outsiders with the help of our own local politicians. Goa is raped everyday by our politicians and the ruling faction of Cowmuth. The so called Freedom Fighters like Karmali were criminals during the Portuguese regime and are now party to the looters or Goa.
ReplyDeleteLaw and order? What law and order? International Criminals like Atala escaping out of Goa and the Goan law machinery does not know about it, is this law and order?
Goan judiciary works on fixing, the politicians are good at fixing. Criminals are out due to this fixing.
Hi Jerry-Saligao: I think everyone will agree with your comment.
ReplyDeleteGoans everywhere are crying out as they see that Goa is being decimated inch by inch. Many feel powerless.
The Portuguese like any other RULERS, are not perfect...but for sure they were very fair and gave Goa much more good than the present Goan rulers, controlled by Delhi.
It seems like Goa is no lnger owned by the people...but by the 40 Criminals that prance and monkey around the Legislature... and the wealthy land grabbing lobbyists.
What has Karmail given Goa.He is a fake Freedom .If he is 71 years this year, he would be born in 1939.This means that he was fighting the Portuguese when he was 21 years old.
Based on the behaviour of Youths of that period and age group,Mr Karmali was unklikely to be a Principled and mature freedom fighter.
He would be most likely a "dogsbody" or donkey/or mule for the real freedomn Fighters.
He is today the only Freedom Fighter left in the 21st Century world, that is still fighting Colonialism.
He thinks Colonialism still exists.
No one else can find it or see it of feel it...except Karmali. The world has surely moved on...except Karmali.
I remember the gold ornaments that my Aiee (mother) and father and my wife had kept in the BANC ULTRAMARINO NACIONAL which was taken to Portugal for safe keeping has been returned to each and every person who produced the receipt of the same. If the Portuguese were looters they would not have returned the ornaments which ammounted to crores and crores of rupees and would have been helpful to them. This proves that the PORTUGUESE were really good people and cared about Goans. The indian dogs like Karmali need to be hanged to tree and left there dangling so that the vultures eat their bodies.
ReplyDeleteIts time to throw out these thieves from Goa before its too late.
ReplyDeleteI will not be celebrating 19th Dec as Goa's Liberation day anymore, but shall mark it as a BLACK DAY for Goans in Goa.........
