TWO KARNATAKIS HELD FOR SELLING FAKE MEDICINES

PONDA: A group of people from Khandepar in Ponda on Sunday nabbed two persons from Karnataka for attempting to cheat people on the pretext of supplying fake herbal medicines and handed them over to Ponda police.
Sandeep Gaonkar, a local citizen, who played an important role in nabbing the accused, informed that one Iqbal Chhatra Singh, 60, and his son Indrajit, 28, both residents of Tilakwadi Belgaum in Karnataka, used to visit the village to sell their herbal medicines.
Gaonkar said the father and son were attracting customers by claiming that their medicines could cure all chronic diseases and several people from the village had fallen prey to their claims.
However, the people who took the medicines did not find any relief after consuming the said medicines offered to them. "The medicines in powder form could neither treat any disease nor could they give relief to any person from the ill-effects of their diseases," Gaonkar said.
The local informed that the duo as usual had recently visited the village with the same medicines and claims. However, people who were their victims informed each other and planned to trap them red-handed. They asked them to visit the village on Sunday. When they visited on Sunday morning, people trapped them, Gaonkar said.
They were later handed over to Ponda police. The Ponda police have admitted that they have detained the duo on suspicion under Section 41 of CrPC. The duo would be presented before the court concerned on Monday, police said. (TNN)
