PANJIM: The Goa government on Friday announced an ambitious health insurance scheme that would provide cover to its citizens from all kinds of medical emergencies.
Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said that the State Cabinet has approved the scheme named 'Swarnajayanti Arogya Yojna', as the state will enter the golden jubilee year of its liberation from Portuguese rule on December 19, has an upper ceiling of Rs 60,000 annually.
"The family of five people can avail this benefit even for their treatment in private hospitals," Kamat told reporters after the State Cabinet meeting at Porvorim here. "The money paid for medicines can also be reimbursed under this scheme," he added. Kamat said many people were finding it difficult to bear the expense of medical treatments at private hospitals and "the scheme will lend them financial help."
The state government has decided to give a card for each citizen, which will be honoured by private hospitals. The chief minister said the state will tie up with an insurance company to provide the health cover. – PTI
