CARNIVAL PARADE AT PONDA TO GET A GOOD BOOST

PONDA: Expecting its first Carnival floats parade to make a big debut on Monday, the Ponda Carnival Committee (PCC) said it had already received about 15 float entries and they expect about 10 on-the-spot entries. On Saturday, the Ponda Municipal Council chief and PCC chairperson, Kishore Naik, said the committee sought 5 lakh more than the initial 15 lakh that was sanctioned for the festivities. He said they expect to get the money from the government by Monday.
Naik said the PCC has asked the Panjim Carnival Committee to make separate floats for its King Momo and Queen Momo. Tome Fernandes has been chosen as King Momo and will lead the parade.
The Carnival festivities will begin with a khell tiatr titled 'Nostalgia de Carnival' at four places across Ponda on Sunday. The following day there will be a Konkani music show and band performance at the PMC volleyball ground at 1pm. The main Carnival parade will begin at 3pm, move along the main road and disperse at Ponda's old bus stand.
