PANJIM: Two persons were arrested by Panjim police on Thursday afternoon for allegedly abducting a businessman from Panjim. Prabhakar Nerulkar alias Sagar, 40, from Nerul and Avinash Naik, 43, from Sangolda, were arrested for abducting Anup Sinha, 39, a businessman residing at Caranzalem. Police said that one person is missing and they are trying to trace him. They have been booked for criminal trespass, wrongful restraint, assault besides abduction.
During interrogation, accused Sagar told police he knew Sinha since last three years. Police said that Sagar had entered into an agreement for sale with one person from Valpoi to purchase 30,000 sq m land for ` 25 lakh. When Sinha told Sagar that he was interested in purchasing property in Goa, Sagar showed him the property in Valpoi. Sinha then came to know about the agreement of sale between Sagar and the Valpoi based person and he directly contacted this person and purchased the property. This upset Sagar as he felt that because of Sinha's backstabbing, he had lost the property, said police sources.
"This led to arguments between the two and Sagar demanded to be compensated. According to the accused, on Wednesday at 12 pm, Sinha called him home to reach a compromise and later they went for lunch in Sagar's car, when Sinha jumped out and complained to the police," said police.
Incidentally, when police verified with the security guard posted at Sinha's flat, he said that there was no struggle between Sagar and Sinha as well as Sinha's car was very much in the parking place, said police sources.
