KADAMBA TRANSPORT FACES SHORTAGE OF DRIVERS

PANJIM: The state-run Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL), which is currently in an expansion mode, is facing a shortage of 30 drivers even as 65 daily wage workers comprising mostly of drivers await regularisation of their services.
The managing director of KTCL, Mr Venancio Furtado speaking to this newspaper informed that the Corporation is currently facing a shortage of bus drivers and this is affecting KTCL all the more as it is planning to expand its bus services.
Mr Furtado said that the Corporation has re-launched its Goa-Mumbai service besides starting its bus services on some local routes. While drivers and conductors together numbering six have been suspended on disciplinary grounds, some of the Corporation staff has retired which has led to the shortage of around 30 drivers over the last one year, informed Mr Furtado. He, however, said that despite this the Corporation has managed to keep the show running without any fresh recruitment.
Mr Furtado said the Corporation is in the process of regularising services of the daily wage workers, who have stood by the Corporation for so many years. He said that the file has been forwarded to the government for sanction of finance as the Corporation is dependent on the government for its employees’ salaries. Elaborating on the daily wage workers, the managing director of KTCL said the daily wages have been hiked recently. However, he said the Corporation has its limitations and cannot increase the wages above Rs 297.
Replying to a query on KTCL’s target to improve its finances by ten per cent, Mr Furtado said providing good service is currently on the Corporation’s priority list. He said the Corporation is presently focused on bettering its services with optimum use of existing resources rather than achieving profit. According to Mr Furtado, no state-run transport corporation in the country is gaining profit unless they diversify into some allied services. He further ruled out KTCL exploring any such option at present. Meanwhile, the Corporation is considering a proposal to provide direct bus service from the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim to various parts of the state. Mr Furtado said the Corporation has asked the GMC officials to identify a dedicated place for parking the KTC buses and a proper time to be allocated to the buses so that the patients coming to the GMC are aware of the timings. He said there is usually a very good response for such trips as it saves the public from changing many buses to make it to the GMC. It also becomes convenient for the patients and their family members accompanying them.

Dont tell Churchill about these vacancies. He will be very, very upset, as he needs and wants and has promised us Goans to become "WATCHMEN" in the Raheja Project in Carmona. He is so well educated in the art of stupidity and HOCUS POCUS, that as soon as he has a few Goans employed as WATCHMEN, to watch his Penthouses, he is aware if they squeal like Pigs , all thieves will run like hell.Wlecome to Churchill and now Valankas world of make believe!!!!!!

  3. Chorchill must be already having plenty of drivers CV's from Motidongor, Vasco. The way the Kadamba Corporation is providing service to the customers now, these CV's will fit their requirement.

  4. KTCL is one of the most inefficient state government entity. i had a chance to see their workshop in porvorim first hand, very knowledgeable technicians but full of indiscipline, huge attittude problems and scant respect for rules. The two nationalised routes should have bolstered KTC but it has shown loss year after year. Just a external overview of KTC higlights huge systemic problem, which needs to be dealt urgently. I am sure an internal Audit by an indepedant source will bring to fore more problems. Just pumping money and resources will not help KTC.
