PANJIM: The much-hoped for start to the removal of the River Princess didn't happen. Mumbai-based Arihant Ship Breakers might have jumped the gun with its declaration of commencing the work on March 5, but were reined in by the government.
Arihant has now been asked to submit a presentation before the monitoring committee on how it will go about executing the project. The monitoring committee met on Monday morning at the state secretariat where principal secretary B Vijayan was briefed about the ship's removal by tourism director Swapnil Naik and north Goa collector Mihir Vardhan. Also present were law secretary Pramod Kamat, NIO scientist Baban Ingole, National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR) scientist Shailesh Pednekar and River Princess Hatao Manch convenor Fermino Fernandes.
It was further decided that the monitoring committee will convene a meeting with Arihant and Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the work order to be issued to Arihant has been drafted. "We are awaiting the notification from the customs authorities. After the notification arrives, customs will set up its office at Britona. The government will then have to pay customs duties of around Rs 3.94 lakh," sources said. Incidentally, Arihant officials conducted a puja at Sinquerim seeking divine blessings for an auspicious start to the removal project.
Enough is Enough, Work should start on this immediately before the Monsoon's. The political class will do everything to delay this as they get their annual earner from this source ?
ReplyDeleteThis disaster has destroyed the whole eco system no one will be able to measure the cost to Goa and the future generations. How many more years do we need to move this monstrosity. Are we trying to send a rocket to Mars or build a space ship ?
Shame on the Government of India.
Shame on you (Delhi muppets-Goan) MLA & Administration officers.
If you do not respect the land of Goa go elsewhere to sell your services we don't need you to serve GOA & GOANS.
Absolutley Pathetic. From the above article looks like no plan was submitted after the tender was won by Arihant. What sort of company is this and what kind of government and opposition. If a project plan is requested after all formalities are done and work almost being started, then something is really wrong somewhere.
ReplyDeleteRomulus::: Someone probably did not receive his "finiancial OR MONETARYCUT" ^& SO THE REMOVAL HAS BEEN DELAYED.
ReplyDeletePerhaps there are more Forms and applications to be filled.
Maybe the Customs and Excise oficials have all been sent to Margao along with Michael Fernandes and the work will be started after the CCP Elections. well I wonder what`s the next excuse.
This is really a Big Joke...! Wonder if this Ship had to be Stranded at the Governments Palace or our Beloved Politicians Palaces, what would have been the outcome?
ReplyDeleteMy only humble suggestion now would be, We need to Open some Stalls along the Beach and Sell some T-Shirts with the River Princess Pictures on it, and a little History how it came to be so Famous….. At least someone will make revenue out of it….. I may sound Sarcastic but what else can we expect of this Fiasco! This is just a Big Joke….
