THE NIZ GOENKAR STORY-1ST ANNIVERSARY by N. Fernandes for Niz Goenkar Team

The 15th of March 2010, will go down in the evolving history of Goa as the birth date, of the Niz Goenkar blogsite / forum.
The Niz Goenkar story began when a true and highly dedicated and motivated person and A resident of Valpoi, Goa, called Mr. Menino Fernandes decided he wanted to make a major contribution, for the advancement of his motherland called Goa. His heart cried and still cries seeing the ills and destruction of his Motherland, Goa.
Sitting in his study room, he kept on dreaming and analysing, which were his best options to help. Many ideas passed through his mind.
Alas, he saw a strange “LIGHT”, and he became possessed with a strong determination, and, decided that as a Computer expert and whizkid, he could use his multi talents to start a Blogsite.
Using his own personal funds, precious time and energy, he then set about creating the site we have all come to know and love as NIZ Goenkar. He did not have to struggle with the name, as he surely believed; he was a great Patriot and had very strong beliefs in being a Niz Goenkar. This was his basic inheritance and a wonderful gift from God; to be born in a Paradise we call Goa.
Today Niz Goenkar is a major medium where Goans all over the world, can come together, to make a contribution with their comments, views, debates, thoughts and ideas on major issues, past, present and future that will make Goa Great again, and, a beautiful and peaceful Paradise that sadly is being gradually decimated by unscrupulous, greedy, uneducated, tainted and criminally intentioned Politicians, their immediate families and their “good for nothing” cronies and scavengers.
Since its inception, Niz Goenkar has dealt with major issues affecting Goa.
It has revealed the corruption at every level of Goan Politics, Goan Politicians’ Goa’s Administrative services, Goa Police, and Society in general too.
As many of you have come to know and learnt, Niz Goenkar is a no-nonsense and very bold site. It has become a leading “Light” for Goans all over the world.
The Niz –Goenkar Birthday cake may only have one candle today, but have no doubt, it has lit many candles as a guiding light in every Village- North, South, East and West.
Sadly, the leading daily of Goa, Herald decided to close down its comment section for 2 main reasons. One was, because of the bad and unconstitutional language used, as it could not be bothered to moderate or censor the comments and subsequently, as it became a “Puppet” in the hands of Goa’s very Corrupt Politicians.
The Politicians forced Herald to close down the comment section as they and their inner sanctums were being exposed. What a shame for a Daily and its Editor –in -Chief to be bludgeoned by the Politicians into submission. The Herald is not concerned by, or compassionate about People issues, the salt of Goan Earth, but are more concerned about promoting images and reputations of Corrupt Politicians. The very sadistic Politicians that are preparing Goa for its “doomsday”.
No worries! , In walks NIZ GOENKAR, to show Herald the way, that recently. Herald, feeling emboldened and ashamed, has been seen to take on issues affecting Goa. It is in a now in a state of gradual awakening.
Today the Corrupt Politicians and Police and other corrupt elements’ of Society have taken and become aware of the existence of Niz – Goenkar.
It has been known that many are having sleepless nights and are trying hard, to close down the NG website. Goa Police too have been using stealth and deception to ensnare some of the commentators. The Politicians, are using and planting spies, to derail Niz Goenkar.
However once again many Niz Goenkar Commentators, are unafraid and are prepared to lay down their lives for the greater good of Goa, its future and the future of its children and environment.
There have been some major contributors to Niz GOENKAR. Aside from Mr Menino Fernandes (of Valpoi), the Founder of the site, it has seen some stalwarts like Bebdo and P Cruz. Regrettably, Bebdo and P. Cruz have decided not to make further contributions for personal reasons and have decided to move on to greener pastures, to pursue their ambitions, and using other means, of making a contribution to the welfare of Goa. We wish them un-reserved success in their pursuits.
However I am sure Niz Goenkar` s have appreciated their efforts in enlightening us all and thank them, for their sincere contributions.
Other major contributors’ have been, Dalia, DLP, Diogo Fichardo, Trevor, Shyam Sawant ( a no nonsense commentator),Joe Rebello ( the Panjim Prowler), Jane D`Sa, Tulsidas Shirodkar ( a Goan Tiger), Sneha Lata, Pedro, Pedro Lopes, Lily Gracias, Franco, Sandesh Gaonkar, D.Justin, Neville, Pio Antao, Nisha Pednekar, Alcantro Carneiro, Gurudas Lotlikar, John14 Pereira, Abdulla Khan (Valpoi) , Vinod Naik (our Poet), Neil, Renoir, Francis Fernandes (Switzerland),Vishwas Prabudesai (a prolific and intelligent commentator).
Niz Goenkar also would like to pay sincere thanks to Mr Nisser Dias, Mr A Veronica Fernandes, Freddy Agnelo Fernandes, Joaquim Correia-Afonso an established and renowned writer, and our eminent writers: Dr.Hubert Gomes, Franco Fernandes, Roque Manuel Coutinho, Adv. Aires Rodrigues (The Baron of Ribandar & nemesis of the Goa Government.) .Dr Paulo Colaco, Dr. Ferdinand Dos Reis Falcao. Joel Morais, Lucio Mascarenhas, Francisco Monteiro, W. Severes, Dalia, Nisha Pereira who stole the hearts of Goans on her article on the Cansaulim episode, Sebastian B. Mesquita, Abdulla Khan from Valpoi, Rupert Coutinho, Vinod Naik (BA Geography), Agnelo Gomes the Combakar, Alex D’Souza, Paulo Colaco Dias, Martinho de Souza and above all not to forget our First writer Praxy Fernandes
Who could ever forget our 2 “lovable rogues”, Johnads and James D`silva. They both have certainly jazzed–up, juxtaposed and added fire to debates on Niz-Goenkar, and, both have also been very gracious in defeat.
I would like to welcome all the new contributors and many Followers too in the ever growing army of Niz Goenkar`s from all around the world. I apologise if I have not mentioned or included your name above and I hope you will offer me your kind understanding. But rest assured you all are True friends and great members of the Niz Goenkar Fraternity.
I would like to make special mention and pay a special tribute to the Chairman and Sponsor of the Niz Goenkar Football Team, DLP (a.k.a.Lazar). Along with his dedicated wife Natty and Coach Johnny Barretto, they have nurtured a great Football Team, which is now taking part in “Competitive” Football in the Gulf region. No doubt, in due course they will merit great sporting Trophies.
The reach of Niz Goenkar Blog site stretches from Goa, Mumbai, New Delhi, the UK, USA, Switzerland, Cayman Island, Dubai, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Macau, Germany, U.S.A, Portugal, Angola, East Africa, France and many others too.
The comments of, Niz Goenkars`, from all over the world, is being heard and loved all over Goa, and, is also sending shivers in the corrupt Goa Government and other establishments’. As a saying goes “THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD”.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Our Host and Editor Mr Menino Fernandes (of Valpoi), for the tremendous sacrifice and effort he has put, selflessly and tirelessly, to give us Goans this great gift and Treasure of a Forum, where we can discuss and understand our major concerns boldly and fearlessly and ensure we can make a major contribution to our Motherland, Goa.
To this and in conclusion, I say VIVA Menino! VIVA NIZ GOENKARS and I am sure you all, will join with me, in this salutation and celebration.
God bless Goa, and all Goans, everywhere. May he also, shine his light and deliver from evil, those that live in a “dark, destructive and corrupt world”.
Please accept our sincere apologies if any name is left out. If so it is purely out of mind and not a deliberate left out.
The whole Team of NIZ GOENKAR thanks from the bottom of their hearts all the readers and commentators in general for taking precious time in patronizing NIZ GOENKAR. May God Bless you all and specially our Motherland GOA and May Goa see its Glorious days back.

If one takes note of the Panjim Elections Goans just haven't learned to elect honest members except their Crumb masters. Site like Niz Goenkar has been on the fore front for One Year today hoping to educate Goans to make a better change for Goa. Menino dreams do come true and your efforts will not go unrewarded. Hope those that have distanced you will realize Rome was not built in a day. Yours is a better foundation for awareness and free to express oneself for the better of Goa.

Your blog is much better and cleaner now, with the new 'no nonsense' comments system. I know a lot of people read this blog, but why they refrain from being 'followers', is what l can't understand. Please, people, 87,000 followers, not just 87, is what we need.
VIVA GOA, VIVA NIZ GOENKAR. VIVA MENINO.

  15. I would like to thank Mr. N. Fernandes, my teammate for this wonderful article that he wrote. I also thank the rest of my team, DLP, Diogo Fichardo, Saturnino and Adriano (our new Teammember) for the wonderful support and great work that you have done and are doing and will do for Niz Goenkar. I would also take this opportunity to thank all my Writers, Readers and Commentators whose names will be an endless one here and I do fear missing any name so I am not putting in any name here. Your great articles have helped in causing an awakening in the wilderness that has been created by all the corrupt of Goa. Though Goans have fallen in grace and have voted blindly in the recent polls of CCP - Panjim, I think that we together can still make an impact and by the time next elections (Assembly) comes people or the younger generation can be prepared to do what is right. There is still a lot of work to be done by us: THE WRITERS, READERS AND THE COMMENTATORS. Your inner thoughts and feelings are being freely published on Niz Goenkar and will continue doing so.
May the Almighty Jesus bless you all and shower his graces upon you all to see the wisdom and to carry on the struggle that we started so earnestly till we achieve it. May the Blessed Mother of God too bless you and keep Goa under her mantle. - Menino de Valpoi

  17. Whatever the outcome,we will not surrender our Goan pride and not bow down to these political buffons. We will keep the flame alive and keep educating people and one day we will bear the fruit. Goans will unite and they will strike down the evil government and bring about better candidates to take Goa by storm and make it into a better place. The people who blindly follow these politicians will one day realize their mistakes and turn the tide around. Till then we keep working and Viva to Menino and Niz Goenkar.

Bless all the Goans and Goa and may GRA be successful to bring about the change.

Niz Goenkar stood by the truth and published it openly. I salute Menino and his team for providing such an excellent window for the Goans to look through and provide a panaromic view of the happenings in Goa. Niz Goenkar has exposed a lot of corruption, police, politicians and people with vested interests who work against our wellbeing. Niz Goenkar has been on the frontline in social issues and contributed in a way for the welfare of "amm admi" of Goa. N. Fernandes ha given a wider view through all his articles and columns filled with his comments and that has risen the level of knowledge of many people like me and others. Your support for GRA is immense and right after posting this comment, I will be on my way to attend GRA meeting, to part take with my other Goan brethern. Though we have struggled to make it a huge thing, I am optimistic about the success as our own divisions amongst NGO's has widened. Everyone want to be on the stage for nothing but to be seen and this has haampered our own efforts. I hope Niz Goenkar will cover the event and move it forward to people to come forward and wipe out the present self appointed adminstrators of Goa through money power.

  21. This article by Mr.N.Fernandes is a perfect tribute to the founder of Niz Goenkar Mr.Menino de Valpoi. Its a slow race but a steady one and we will surely achieve our dreams to turn our Goa Golden again. It is because of the penetrating voices on Niz Goenkar by Niz Goenkars that we see some positive changes in Goa today. My heart and gratitude goes to every writer, commentator and debater who write with love and passion for the love of Goa. To Mr.Menino and Niz Goenkar team and all the writers, Dev Borem Korum ! Sue DHL or the one who sent it for not packinig it properly? I am in a dilemma! My mouth is watering with the smell of Cashew and my house smells like Taverna. Anyway, Viva Niz Goenkar and Many Happy Returns of today.

Niz Goenkar has done a tremendous job and wishing you all a Happy Anniverssary. I picked word by word and understood now some of the associates went for greener pastures. Recalling some of the articles of one of the team member who left were inflamatory, Goans against Goans with a regional mindset and Niz Goenkar looks much prettier without a regional fight. Our fight must be against those who destroy Goa and not against Dubai Goans. We contribute a lot to our economy and not destroy it from Dubai. After some disgruntled writers stopped dividing Goans based on regional mentality, the forum is much cleaner. We also agree that some of our agents here bring in politicians from Goa as Chief Guests which is against all my personal ethics. But how can one decide and dictate? Hope our wishes for a prosperous Goa will come true and wishing Niz Goenkar a very prosperous life all the success.

I congratulate Mr. Menino de Valpoi for starting Niz Goenkar. He has taken a very bold decision to light the candle which, in turn, has lit many more candles throughout Goa. I thank Niz Goenkar for counting me among the contributors. Some of my contributions were, in fact, rejected by the local daily newspapers, but were welcomed by Mr. Menino.
That piece "Politics - before and after", which was sent to me by a friend via email, gives us an idea about today's unscrupulous politicians, what they promise before the elections and how they actually turn out after taking over power. Unfortunately, we are not experts at reading between the lines, nor from bottom to top.
I wish Mr. Menino and Niz Goenkar success in their endeavour to create awareness in us about the politicians of today and their evil intentions and for providing a site for truthful and honest comments, ideas, debates on major issues affecting Goa and Goans, in the hope that all this will create the necessary impact to unite all true Goans and save Goa from the unscrupulous and evil intentioned politicians.

This evening I intend to have a drink in honour of Niz Goenkar's first Birthday. Unlike our Goan press Nix Goenkar has been a thorn in the butt of all Goan politicans. Let us not build castles in the air but set our feet firmly on the ground to educate all Goans especially the crumb eaters, that it is they who are ruining Goa. Their greed sees no vision for Goa , by electing the same corrupt ministers repeatedly to power. God Bless us all.

Few are trying but many think it is not their duty, or it is fruitless as the others do not follow. NG has been followed in many parts of the world and has woken up many Goans to the true facts of life in Goa.
My cousin who was born abroad married with two children in their 20s has never visited Goa I asked him to go on NG site and follow it.Thanks to your site he has finally decided to make a trip to Goa and experience things first hand.
God Bless and reward you for the sacrifices you have made for others to voice themselves.
