MARGAO: While Sulabh International’s AC toilet block is awaiting official inauguration at the Margao Municipal garden, a toilet block operated by Sulabh at the KTC bus stand has run into big time trouble. For, the Power department has disconnected power supply to the toilet block since Thursday for non-payment of power arrears to the tune of Rs 62,333.
If Electricity Assistant Engineer, Santosh Lolyenkar is to be believed, the Power department had no option than to disconnect the power supply since the agency has been a regular defaulter since the last two years.
Incidentally, the Power department says that the power connection to the public toilet block was issued as per a requisition made by the Tourism department. And, every time, the Power department moved in to disconnect power supply to the toilet block, the Tourism department intervened to save the day for the Sulabh International.
”We have no idea what is the connection or agreement between the Tourism department and Sulabh. But, this time around, the Power department is firm and will reconnect power only after the arrears are cleared”, Lolyenkar said.
The disconnection of the power supply to the toilet block put commuters to severe hardships this evening. Commuters who visited the block had to fend for themselves as the premises went without power supply.
