FDA RAID, SEIZES GUTKA WORTH ELEVEN LAKH RUPEES

PANJIM: The officials of the Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday afternoon raided the bungalow at Bethoda on the outskirts of Ponda of a man suspected to be the main distributor of gutkha in the state and seized goods worth nearly ` 11 lakh.
According to the information provided by the director of FDA, Mr Salim Veljee, the owner of bungalow, Mr Sudhakar Matkar was raided because he suspected to be one of the main suppliers of gutkha in the state.
Mr Veljee further said that among the brands of gutkha seized in the raid were RMD Gutkha, Kolhapuri Gutkha, Savitri Gutkha, Madhu Gutkha, Society Gutkha and Madhu Chaap Khaini, all worth over ` 10.93 lakh.  The raid was conducted by food inspectors Mr Abel Rodrigues and Ms Sharda Khandeparkar.
