COURT REJECTS CRIME BRANCH APPLICATION

MARGAO: The South Goa Sessions court today rejected the application by the Crime Branch of Goa police, to cancel the anticipatory bail of Conrad Torrado, the brother of Nadia Torrado. Judge Vijaya Pol asserted that Conrad has not violated any conditions imposed by the court whilst granting him the anticipatory bail.
The judge further said that none of Conrad’s statements concerning the whereabouts of the mobile phones, laptop and passport of his deceased sister, do not come with the purview of the term ‘non cooperation’ with the investigating agency.
“The records show that Conrad has not violated any of the conditions on which his bail was granted. Conrad has been attending the crime branch as and when called by the investigating officer. It is not the case of the prosecution that Conrad has tampered with the prosecution witnesses. His statement to the effect that inspite of his search, he could not find the mobile phone sets, the laptop and the passport, does not amount to non-cooperation with the investigating agency. It is not clarified as to how the investigating officer would be able to get the articles from Conrad if he is given police custody nor clarified how the investigating officer would be able to elicit the truth from him if he is stating lie by putting him in police custody”, the Judge observed.
The Crime branch has sought custodial interrogation of Conrad for the recovery of the mobile phone set of the deceased Nadia.
