ONE GOAN GIRL AMONG THE RESCUED PARLOUR GIRLS

PANJIM: Out of the 20 girls rescued from the two beauty parlours at Porvorim and Candolim respectively, last week one turned out to be a Goan girl. It is a confirmed fact that 11 girls from Porvorim and 9 from Candolim were rescued during the two raids.
It has also been disclosed that a Goan girl, who was also rescued during the raid, is still lodged in the protective home at Merces pending inquiry into the incident which also had girls from Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland rescued by Women’s police station.
Mahalaxmi Mishra and five others were arrested in the raid by police. A NGO from North East had informed Goa NGO, which led to the raid.
Sources stated that the Goan girl was not qualified to be a beautician or masseur. She was initially asked to manage the billing counter but was later forced to massage.  Sub divisional magistrate, Mapuca is conducting inquiry into the affairs of these two parlours while Goa State Commission for Women has also initiated its parallel inquiry.
While girls from Mizoram and Nagaland are taken back by their respective state police and parents, around 5 girls from Manipur are still in the protective home.  Sources stated that Manipur government is yet to respond and team from the state may arrive anytime to take the custody.
