PANJIM: Islanders of Vanxim in Sao Mathias panchayat, Malar have once against reiterated their resolve to oppose the proposed resort and golf course project in their village. The villagers will be holding a public rally on November 7 to protest against the project being pursued by a Chennai-based company. The meeting will be held near the church at 4 p.m.
Earlier, the gram sabha members strongly opposed the resort project, as the 70-odd villagers vowed to oppose the same as the villagers raised concerns over the social impact of the project on the people of the village due to gambling arising out of the casinos and prostitution in the disguise of recreational club and spa. The villagers then decided to hold a meeting on November 7.
The gram sabha also decided to strongly oppose a proposal for a children’s park-cum-car parking in the village as they felt that it was being done to benefit the mega project promoters. The villagers also brought to the notice of the sarpanch, Mr Tulsidas Kundaikar about a doctor who is operating illegally in the village.
The villagers further complained that the village road was repaired in 1999 and no work has been done for the past 11 years while the streetlights too are not functioning and people face blackout on the streets which inconveniences the 80-odd families.
The sarpanch assured the villagers to look into the matter at the earliest and get the electricity fixtures repaired. The meeting passed off peacefully. (NT)
This should be an eye opener for the Goans in general. Land is sold underhand in alliance with the elected representatives of the people. The act is blessed by the Government officials as the pockets are filled by the buyers as these buyers are not small fish, they can afford to pinch a little to satisfy these greedy scoundrels. NIZ GOENKARA, we are proud of you since you are now directly involved with the peoples causes. Initially, it was fighting on the screen and now the fight has reached to it's battlefield stood on ground reality. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteCitizens of Vanxim You need to keeping fighting, Unless support is gained from other villages these mega projects will keep on growing. Thanks to our governments these mega projects have ruined the beauty of every Goan village.
ReplyDeleteAll these projects have the blessings of the politicians, Sarpanch and Panchayat members who then make the villagers dance be it Vanxim, Naora, Cansaulim or Sancoale!
ReplyDeleteThey would have already received kickbacks, memberships to these Golf Courses, flats, shops and free holidays besides all sorts of other bribes.
Vanximkars... Keep up your fight against these corrupt devils. Niz Goenkar is fully supporting you people of Vanxim. If it is convenient and if time permits Niz Goenkar might even attend the meeting on November 7 and report the proceedings on Niz Goenkar site.
ReplyDeleteVanxim Brethren, We have nothing to gain only everything to lose in the time to come if it goes on like this - thanks to the stinking political establishment in Goa. Fight with all your might. The time has indeed come. You have support of more people than you think. God Bless !
