CUNCOLIM PSI STABBING CASE ACCUSED CONVICTED

MARGAO: The assistant sessions judge, South Goa, Ms S Paul on Tuesday convicted Santosh Naik, who was charged by Cuncolim police for attempting to commit murder of the police sub inspector of Cuncolim police station, Mr Prassana Bhagat while discharging his lawful duty at Cuncolim, on February 28 this year.
According to the prosecution, the accused Santosh had assaulted a man at Balli and later a police complaint to this effect was lodged at the Cuncolim police station. Offences of assault, wrongful restraint and threat were registered against him.
However, the PSI Mr Bhagat was stabbed at Santosh’s residence where he along with two other policemen had gone in connection with the investigation of the case. Santosh was booked under Section 307 of IPC and the case was chargesheeted in the court.
Mr L Fernandes, the public prosecutor appeared on behalf of the state. The case will come up for orders before court on October 28. The case was investigated by PSI, Mr Gautam Salunke.(NT)
