PARLOUR SEX RACKET ACCUSED RELEASED ON BAIL

PANJIM: Children’s Court today released the six persons who are booked for trafficking north eastern girls into alleged flesh trade.  The alleged accused identified as Mahalaxmi Mishra from Candolim, Mohammad Arif of Uttar Pradesh, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Naim Khan, Mohammad Khalid and Nawab Salami, all from Delhi were released on personal bond and local surety.
The women police team had rescued 11 girls - hailing from Mizoram, Nagaland and Belgaum – who are alleged victims of human trafficking during a raid at ‘Lotus’ beauty parlour at Porvorim on October 9.
Five boys and the lady parlour owner were arrested for trafficking, pushing the girls into prostitution and Goa Children’s Act, as one rescued victim is a minor.
The Court president P V Sawaikar ordered that Mishra be released on surety bail in Rs 25,000 and the men hairdressers be released on Rs 5000 surety in like amount. Counsel representing the six alleged accused Swapnil Nashnolkar told the Court that his clients’ involvement in the alleged sex racket was not proved and they are also falsely implicated. “The men are professional hairdressers and they came down to Goa between six months to one year period,” Nashnolkar said.
The Court besides set conditions that the alleged accused will have to remain present in the women police station for one-week and thereafter once every week for case investigation.
After the raid, not only Mizoram government sought Mishra’s custodial interrogation at Aizwal but Nagaland government has also intervened asking its Goa counterpart to investigate whether its girls are really involved in alleged prostitution.  The rescued victims are presently lodged at Merces protective home even as Goa State Commission for Women and Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) are conducting a parallel inquiry.(HD)
