ANNUAL FAMA CELEBRATED AT COLVA CHURCH

MARGAO: The Colva Fama was held on Monday, at the Our Lady of Merces Church, amidst heavy showers. Nonetheless, devotees thronged to the venue and stood in serpentine queue to kiss the statue of Infant Jesus.

Ms Piedade Fernandes, a 70-year-old parishioner said, “Never in the history of the Colva Fama have we seen such heavy rainfall which disrupted the celebrations and drenched the faithful. Only on two previous occasions, it rained for an hour, but only in the evening.” The devotees however braved the rains and stood in queues, together with children, to kiss the statue of Infant Jesus. Children were surrendered at the feet of Infant Jesus as a mark of thanksgiving and also for seeking blessings in their lives.
Traffic police and other personnel were seen taking cover from the rains and devotees stood under umbrellas and in raincoats. Owners of stalls selling the traditional items like grams, kadeo-bodeo, jalabees, etc, struggled to protect their goods. (NT)

  1. During any Goan feasts I always enjoyed the kadio bodio and chanas at the fair, not forgetting the drinks, sorpatel and sanas followed by dosh. Sad to know that it rained at the Colva feast. May be because the corrupt ministers attended the service.

  5. At 21.00 hrs, the Chorchill and his leitaum were sitting in the Sacristy discussing with the priests what a somber day it was. One inside bird called me and told that they were blaming each others for bringing the rain on that day. Seems Chorchill blamed Fr Diago for the rains as it was due to his sinful acts with women and the later blamed the other for corruption and looting people.

  6. Anyone who wants to know more about the feast can read the Herald. There are plenty of articles on the feast to enlighten those who are in the darkness. Niz Goenkar is for all Niz Goans to discuss on topics whether personal or otherwise.
