DAMU NAIK HAS NO RIGHT TO DEMAND MY RESIGNATION: JOAQUIM ALEMAO

MARGAO: Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao has said that Fatorda MLA Damu Naik has no right to demand his resignation on the controversial reservation of wards in the municipal areas.  Addressing voters of ward 3 of Margao Municipal Council after opening the election office of Joseph Silva, Alemao asserted that only the people of Cuncolim has the right to demand his resignation if the people thinks he has failed them on the developmental front.
“Damu should tell the people of Goa why should I quit as the Minister for Urban Development. Am I responsible for reserving the municipal wards for OBCs and STs When the House took the decision in view of the calling attention motion? Can the Congress say no to reservations for the OBCs and STs When these communities have rallied behind the party at all times”, he said.
Reminding the Fatorda MLA that reservations have been done by the Director of Municipal Administration and not by him or the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat or GPCC general secretary Vijay Sardessai, Alemao urged the people of Goa to vote and elect good candidates who would fulfill their aspirations in the municipal bodies.
Making an appeal to the people of ward 3 to support the candidature of Joseph Silva, the Urban Development Minister promised that he and his brother, PWD Minister Churchill Alemao would take up all pending works in the ward in the next two years.
In his address, the GPCC general secretary Vijay Sardessai lashed out at both the Fatorda MLA and the candidate Piedade Norohna for not ushering development work during their tenure. (HD)
