NOTICE SLAMMED ON CASINO FOR VIOLATING ANTI TOBACCO ACT

PANJIM: The State Level Steering Committee (SLSC) on tobacco control has issued notice to an offshore casino, for violating Anti Tobacco Act by permitting smoking even in the area where crèche for children exists. Sources stated that the notice was issued after a visitor to the ship, who did not wanted to be identified, complained to SLSC about the rampant violation of Anti-Tobacco Act there.
The SLSC issued warning letter to the Casino management asking them to adhere to the law. “It is decided that surprise checks would be conducted by policemen in plain clothes to ensure that they respect the law,” Dr Shekhar Salkar, SLSC member said.
He said that a committee formed by State Government to check affairs on casino can be designated to have frequent raids. “Raid by policemen bears no fruit as even before they reach the vessel, the message about the raid reaches. There is no surprise element left in it,” Dr Salkar said.
Doctor said that not just this casino but a surprise check would be also done of other casinos operating in the State. “We are very much sure that violation of Anti-Tobacco Act is been done in almost all casinos. We have just received complaint against one,” he added. (HD)

  1. These casinos have become a thorn in the lives of the Goan citizens. yet the Goan Government has let them survive for their own benefit as they are frequented by their own criminals and drug dealers.
