VALPOI VOTING 83 PERCENT TURN OUT

VALPOI: Inspite of heavy rain the Valpoi voters marched to the booths to cast their votes.  Valpoi recorded an  83 percent polling percentage in the by-election held at Valpoi today.
A total of 14,881 votes were polled in the bye polls.Highest polling of 93% was recorded in Murmune while Valpoi town recorded the lowest of 64.37%.  “People have stood for development.” said Vishwajit Rane, congress candidate for the bypoll. “I thought the new process of photography and finger scan would take time. But that is not so”, he further added.
New procedure were introduced in this bypoll for the first time in India such as photographing the voters and taking their finger prints to ensure transparency in the voting process.  The elections were called for as Vishwajeet Rane had resigned from his assembly seat on June 24 to join the Congress party.
