PANJIM: A Goa court on Friday adjourned hearing in the Scarlett Eden Keeling murder case till October 17, after the defence lawyer sought time to study the court order rejecting his claim that some pages from the British teenager's diary were missing.
Lawyer Jose Peter D'souza, representing accused Placido Carvalho, told Goa Children's Court President P V Sawaikar that he wants to study the order, which rejected his claim that pages from the diary were missing. Scarlett's diary has been added as an important evidence in the sensational case.
The British teenager's bruised corpse was found at the shore of Anjuna beach on February 18, 2008.
Two locals were arrested and chargesheeted for sexually assaulting the minor and leaving her to die at the shore after administering drugs to her. D'souza said he wants to challenge the court order rejecting his application only after studying the grounds on which it was dismissed.
When the trial resumes on October 17, Murli Sagar, a witness, will be cross-examined by a defence lawyer. Mumbai-born Sagar was working in the shack adjacent to the place where Scarlett's body was found. He is amongst the few who allegedly interacted with Scarlett little before her death.
The case was initially investigated by Goa police but was handed over to the CBI after the state police was criticised for carrying out a shoddy probe. – PTI
Court cases in Goa and the rest of India are a Joke. This case will end in a stalemate as high profile persons may be involved.
ReplyDeleteWill the dead soul get justice in Goa? I doubt so as the cases are just collapsing one after another those charge sheeted by the police.
ReplyDeleteWell the case goes on and on and God alone knows when the culprits will be punished. Looks like by the time judgement is pronounced the culprits will be 80 years old or will be gone from this world.
ReplyDeleteTo Lily Gracias:::Dont forget the Advocate. He to will grow old, much ,much richer too.
ReplyDeleteIf I am not mistaken, I think?!! the Mother too is still awaiting for the Body Parts used in the Post Mortem to be returned to her so she could give her daughter a decent burial.
I was given to uderstand cases involving Tourists would be "FAST TRACKED" through Courts in Goa.
I fail to understand who benefits and derives enjoyment from very long Court Cases.Surely not the injured Parties involved.
Advocates in Goa are not always "ethical" in their dealings.
This case also has Roy Naik mentioned as the "PONDA`s DRUG ANGEL OF DEATH".So yes, there could be back door dealings to delay the court proceedings.Roy and Placido were definetely buddies in the Drug Trade.Roy was the "Wholesaler" & Placido the "Retailer".
I wonder when the NIGHT TIME courts will be introduced to clear the backlog of cases.
I have not heard much of the loudly trumpeted "Paperless Courts" recently either. Is this another Political GIMMICK?
As I said many times...Mr Chief Minister is in a deep sleep. When confronted he goes to New Delhi or blabbers some rubbish.
Not much news of Mr Chief Minister`s and Facebook being banned.I doubt if Mr Chief Minister is a resident of the 21st Century. He seems as backward as his vote bank.
The police is Goa are not trained in forensics and crime detection. They are trained only in collecting haftas and to lick arses of their political bosses. They are also trained to get serviced for free from a street walker and then film the entire episode on their mobiles.
ReplyDeleteSo when you have such a police force which is incompetent and corrupt, what can you expect?
They cannot file a water-tight case and when the case comes to court, the loop-holes are exposed by the defence lawyers.
No wonder Goa has such a high rate of acquittals. Hardly any one is convicted for rape, murder and robbery.
This case too won't be different.
Every case in Goa has seen it's right place, the DUSTBIN. This has increased the crime rate and none is bothered as the corruption has killed the process of investigation. The Gua Police are so corrupt, they tend to beat any other police force in the World. The reason is political interference and hafta system. If properly investigated,t he assets of every policemen is more than than the proportion of actual income. Forget about what is digested by the smaller cadre like omelettes and bhelpuris, what will these small fish do?
ReplyDeleteThat's why I am still dreaming to be a polishman. There's no shame in polishing the corrupt politicians' shoes or arses as long as my income goes on increasing. Who cares about the outcome, huh???
