RTO REGISTERS 155 CASES AGAINST MINING TRUCKS

PANJIM: The transport department has re-launched its extensive crackdown on erring mining trucks and on Saturday registered 155 cases. Transport director Arun Desai said 80 cases were registered in North Goa, while south Goa saw 75 cases registered.
"Seventy-four cases in the north were for overloading ore, while six vehicles were confiscated for having Karnataka registration. A KA registration cannot do a point-to-point route in Goa. One point should be in either state," he said. Staff from RTOs in Mapusa, Panjim and Bicholim were used.
"In the south, 72 cases were for overloading ore, while three were for ore spillage," Desai said. RTO staff from Margao, Ponda, Vasco and Quepem were used. "After the drive, we are issuing a public notice that violators will be referred for contempt of court for violating a high court order," Desai said.
