GOA CONGRESS CONDEMNED ITS OWN CM OVER BALLI AGITATION

PANJIM: The Congress on Friday condemned its own Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat for mishandling the tribal agitation, which led to the death of two leaders.  "Chief Minister Digambar Kamat should solve issues of tribals within ten days, otherwise I will be forced to resign from the party and other public offices," Goa Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Vishnu Surya Wagh said.
Wagh said things that happened, were 'unfair' and Kamat should have handled the agitation and their demands properly.  "We condemn his action," he said, adding that Kamat has no right to continue in office. The Congress leader, who also chairs 'Other Backward Classes Corporation', said he would not mind quitting the post, if the Chief Minister does not adhere to demands of the Scheduled Tribe people.
Around 10,000 Scheduled Tribe people had blocked the National Highway on Wednesday. The agitation turned violent when police, along with locals, began thrashing the tribals. Two tribal leaders were burnt to death in a nearby Cashew factory.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar stated that whatever the tribals were demanding is justified and government should agree to their demands.  Congress legislator Pandurang Madkaikar, who heads the State Tribal Commission, has also threatened to quit the post if the demands were not met within ten days. – PTI
