PANJIM: Central and state Congress leaders that attended Wednesday's meeting in Delhi to find a solution to the medium of instruction row in Goa did not make much headway. Goa desk in-charge J S Brar held two rounds of discussions with stakeholders and since all the attendees were divided over the issue, it will be discussed again on Thursday.
Sources present at the meeting said that Aldona MLA Dayanand Narvekar said that the Congress party has no majority to resolve the issue as the coalition government is dependent on the NCP and MGP.
However, Brar said, "We have heard various views, everyone is seized of the matter and we will discuss the issue again on Thursday. This is a sensitive issue and we will come out with a suitable solution before May 25." Thursday's meeting will be attended by central Congress leaders, Brar, AICC secretary Sudhakar Reddy, chief minister Digambar Kamat and GPCC president Subhash Shirodkar.
Every member who attended Wednesday's meeting expressed his/her opinion over the issue. An equal number of speakers voted in favour of Konkani, Marathi and English. However, Kamat, education minister Atanasio 'Babush' Monserrate and Shirodkar did not participate in the discussion.
Stating that around 30 members attended Wednesday's meeting, Shirodkar said, "Every member express his/her views. Kamat and I will meet Brar once again tomorrow to discuss the medium of instruction issue."
MGP MLA and transport minister Ramakrishna 'Sudin' Dhavlikar, who attended Wednesday's meet said that a "status quo should be maintained and the RTE Act should be implemented in the true spirit".
Wednesday's meeting was attended by Kamat, Shirodkar, Monserrate, PWD minister Churchill Alemao, power minister Aleixo Sequeira, Dhavlikar, deputy speaker Mauvin Godinho, Narvekar, Santa Cruz MLA Victoria Fernandes, former Union law minister Ramakant Kkalap, former education minister Luizinho Faleiro, GPCC general secretary Shambu Bahu Bandekar, N Shivdas, GPCC vice-president Luis Cardozo, NSUI president Sunil Kawthankar, state youth congress president Sankalp Amonkar, Diocesan society of education secretary Fr Zeferino D'Souza, Forum for Right of Children's Education (FORCE) secretary Savio Lopes, Fr Mousinho de Ataide, Brar, Reddy, senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes and AICC secretary Mabel Rebello.
Union minister for human resource development Kapil Sibal and Union minister for minority affairs Salman Khurshid could not attend the meeting due to personal reasons.
For sure the decision will be to maintain Status Quo & include Kannada , Urdu & Malyam as MOI in Goa & Come November we all Goans will again elect Ali baba & his forting thieves. Ali Baba, Mr Parryankar & Shkalavati have already printed election banners in Marathi , urdu & Malyam as they believe Goans cannot read English nor they expect Goans to vote for them.
ReplyDeleteAll the IDIOTS from Goa rushing to Delhi for commonsense.
ReplyDeleteHi Justin: I agree with you.
ReplyDeleteSeems like Goan Politicians believe Goa has no intellectuals or academics. They only exist in New Delhi.
MOI- Parents all over the world want their children to have a nice future.
ReplyDeleteOne way to accomplish that is to begin developing the child’s potential at his or her early years of life. So English is the best language to learn in terms of reading, writing, arithmetic & nowadays computers.
India is a rapidly developing country and the success is because of high literacy rate and good education system in the country. English language plays an important role in all spheres of life. Our Government should not think twice to issue grant to English medium schools. Private education in English is very expensive for many Goan families and it is a financial drain on their monthly income. They have to sacrifice some of their luxuries and so it affects their standard of living.
Only English should be the medium of instruction from pre-primary school onwards and Konkani should be the second language and it should be taught as a compulsory subject in government aided schools and private as well as it is an official language of Goa. There should be option for Roman and Devnagiri scripts. Other languages like Marathi, French, Portuguese could be optional subjects in the elementary section.
We must not confuse the minds of our young children. All these years we never had no detention policy and now it is easy to get promoted even if the students fail in their exams. According to my opinion, it will undermine the standard of education. Neither the teacher nor the student will be very serious in his/her duties.
We are in the competitive world and we should look ahead to better our children’s future.
Just my views.
