MGP TRIES TO TAKE ADVANTAGE TO PROMOTE MARATHI

PANJIM: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party on Tuesday announced that it will support primary education in local languages as the medium of instruction.  The MGP president, Mr Pandurang Dhavalikar a pro Marathi and against Konkani said that the MGP has already made its stand clear and would not deviate from it under any circumstances.
Stating that the Congress party is free to take any decision on the issue, Mr Dhavalikar said that the MGP would only react after the decision is announced.
Meanwhile, the Transport Minister and MGP MLA, Mr Ramakrishna Dhavalikar said that a status quo should be maintained as far as medium of instruction issue is concerned. He said the state legislative assembly had agreed for maintaining a status quo during its budget session and it being a supreme legislative body in the state the government should have followed its decision.

I have always maintained that the MGP wants to propagate Marathi as the medium of instruction as its one-point agenda is Goa's merger into Maharashtra.

The decision taken by government to give grants only to schools having vernacular - Konkani, Marathi, etc - as the medium of instruction goes against the law enacted by the Legislative Assembly. If the State Legislative Assembly agreed to maintain status quo, it also passed an Act whereby discrimination on the basis of language was not allowed.

How, then, does the government discriminate against schools having English as the medium of instruction?
