OPEN LETTER TO CM – HOW MANY MORE DEATHS MR. CM? by Roger D'Souza

Dear Mr Digambar Kamat,
Congratulations to you and Asha Tai on the recent wedding of your beloved son Yogiraj baba and bahu Neha. May the Almighty bless them and guide them along the right path. I must say you along with Yogiraj baba looked very dashing in your sherwanis designed by Abu Jani, the high profile dress designer for the film industry who is reported to have costumed designed the sherwanis worn by the groom’s side during the marriage and reception at the Taleigao Community Centre.
Of course seeing the amount of gold and precious stones that decked the august gathering of the Kamat family at the shadi it is obvious that Mining is still very lucrative in Goa. While it may seem that you are making the proper grunts about cracking down on the large scale illegal mining carried out by many of the Goan politicians which the organised and established sector of the mining industry, comprising of members of the Goa Ore Exporters Association wants you to do. It's obvious that your relationship with the cash rich mining industry is still very strong ,if not stronger than ever which was reinforced by the fact that the most favoured Goan Hotel Cidade de Goa hosted all the VVIPs who came for Yogiraj’s wedding, including J P Singh, the former chief secretary of the state. Apparently all the mining barons were there at the wedding, ranging from Shivanand and Ranjana Salgaocar to the managing director and chairman of Sesa Goa - alias Vedanta - Prasun Mukherjee?
The wedding of your only son is surely an auspicious occasion and I think it is a wonderful opportunity to cherish one's own family and the blessings one has received. At the same time it is important that you spare a thought to the sufferings of the poor and voiceless in Goa; as Chief Minister you are the anna-datta or father of the State of Goa and should be made aware of the sufferings of Goans who struggle through many hardships and grief particularly due to the criminal negligence of the Electricity Department in Goa. It is but shocking that innocent Goans have to pay for their lives thanks to the dereliction of duty on the part of the Government Departments and as the Head of the Government you bear that moral responsibility.
Knowing what a loving father you are to your own son and daughter, may you and Asha Tai never know the misfortune and heart-breaking sorrow of having to grieve for a beloved child in the prime of his youth like the heart broken parents of young Abhay alias Akash Gaonkar from Dharbandora. Although the villagers had advised the Electricity Department about the overhead wires snapping and lying down near the river they never bothered to take corrective action. Two days later young Abhay alias Akash Gaonkar lost his life when he came in contact with those electric wires. What a needless tragic end to a precious life; this youngster was the apple of his parents eyes and their only child.
It brings to mind other needless tragedies that we’ve seen in Goa like in the case of the father and son Joaquim and Domingo Fernandes who paid with their lives at Morjim on September 2, 2009 again thanks to the negligence on the part of the Electricity Department. We also have the tragic case of a young 30 year old mother who was electrocuted and her life cut short leaving behind her grieving husband and two young children.
Our thoughts, prayers and sympathies go to the family of Arjun alias Abhay Ghaonkar and we pray that his soul rests in peace.
Our Goa Government and Governmental machinery owes the moral responsibility for this shocking death as well as the previous accidents due to the negligence on the part of the Electricity Department and their failure to ensure the safety of their operation. The common man pays a heavy price due to their negligence, failure, greed and corruption.
With the unending corruption and greed on the part of the Goa Government and the Government Departments, all that you'll think of is filling your coffers and giving out freebies like water tanks, siphoning off your ill-gotten gains to safe havens outside the country, regularizing irregularities for your mining, real estate, casinos and other buddies, giving away public sports grounds to Ministers and all sorts of evil schemes to steal from the Goan Exchequer and from the Goan what is rightfully ours, instead of discharging your duties towards Goa and the common man and woman in Goa which is your responsibility and duty.
It is Goa and the innocent Goans that pay the price thanks to the corruption, negligence and greed on the part of the Goa Government and the Government Departments. What a sorry state of affairs!
I am also forwarding details of three other death cases that occurred earlier, again due to negligence of the Electricity Dept.
Dear Chief Minister, while you rejoice in the happy times that you are celebrating, I hope you spare a thought to those who have had to pay with their lives leaving their loved ones in grief and sorrow. For us we will be remembering the death of one so young just seventeen our own Abhay alias Akash Gaonkar and the others who had to pay such a big price.
In sorrow and grief,
Anguished Goans
PS: CM Saab please do not forget to convey our greetings and best wishes to Yogiraj baba and bahu Neha before they leave for the USA.

Mr. Roger, very good writing but this CM of Goa will ever pay heed to your writing?. No never, greed of wealth has hit their brain which is very difficult for these kind of people to come out of it. Those People who are suffering be in mining areas as well as due to careless attitude of Govt. dept. will curse upon all these politicians.
