MAPUSA: Mapusa Police has arrested a 24-year-old woman from Canacona on charges of cheating people. In her complaint a couple of days ago, Apeksha Gaonker of Khorlim had told Mapusa Police that her friend, accused Sapna Gaonkar, had stolen her bag containing cash, chain and other items.
The complainant further stated that the accused had told her that she (Sapna) had taken it for her sister’s wedding, but the accused never returned the stolen items.
According to Mapusa Police, on Monday, another woman, Praffulla Vaigankar from Nachinola, filed a complaint stating that on November 11, the accused took her gold chain, worth Rs 12,000, on the pretext that she needs it for some function, but she did not return it.
Based on the information provided by complainant, Apeksha Gaonker, that the accused is in Mumbai, Mapusa Police left for Mumbai to nab the accused.
Mapusa Police nabbed the accused at Mumbai and brought her to Mapusa Police station on Monday and recovered chain from her. On Monday evening, police left for Margao to recover other stolen items. Mapusa Police informed that the accused’s mother had filed a missing complaint of her daughter with Canacona Police, when her daughter was staying at Khorlim.
