The colourful farewell given by fishermen to the Portuguese ship ‘Sagres’ makes me wonder why all those who are regularly seen partying at Indo-Portuguese festivals, or at cocktail parties hosted by the Portuguese Consul General, did not openly voice their opinions? Are they scared, or do they move as per the wind?
Where were those who get ‘highest’ awards from the Portuguese President? Where were the Portuguese teachers; the students who get funds and go to Portugal? Where were the thousands of Goans – Hindu, Muslim and Christians – who obtain Portuguese passports? Where were the members of the Indo Portuguese Friendship Society; of the Semana Cultural Indo-Portuguesa? Were they hibernating?
I hope that the Consulate-General of Portugal in Goa and the Embassy of Portugal in New Delhi open their eyes to realise who the real Portuguese fans are. It’s not the elite and the so-called Brahmins, but the masses of Goa that love Portugal. Be it the Portuguese ship or the Portuguese team for the Euro or the World Cup, these are the people who daringly wave the Portuguese flag in the world’s biggest democracy.
It was touching to see how fishermen spent their own money to bid goodbye to ‘Sagres’, a scene that Mormugao will always remember. No foreign ship was ever given such a warm farewell. I hope the Government of Portugal gives each and every fisherman the highest civilian award from the Portuguese President.

@ Dr. Shiva Prabu, The answer to your question: Are they scared or do they move per wind? is YES. The wind is in the form of corrupt politicians and their Hench men. Hats off to the fishermen and their families who have shown that Goans have warmth in their hearts. There is a saying in Konkani "Shikon Brute" that is what our so called elite are?
ReplyDeleteAnd where was fundação oriente de Goa which boasts of lively ties with Portugal and lives on doles to travel up and down at the cost of the institution? They only sing as Dark Knights in clubs.
ReplyDeleteKarmali's kins are soon going to apply for a Portuguese passport, watch the next step.
Dr. Shiva Prabhu thanks for speaking the truth and opening the eyes of NIZ GOENKAR. You hit the nail right on the spot where it hurts the most. I also wonder where are the Portuguese speaking families from Panjim, Margao and the Bhramins & Chardo's who deprived the common man of Goa to learn Portuguese and seek employment as empragad during the Portugusese regime gone. Are they afraid to show their true colours or are they keeping their legs on two boats for survival. Or is it "te poder mele and te undea kobar gale". And where is Dempo family and the mine owners who benefited from the Portuguese and that f**king Carmen gone, who used to work in the office of honourary Portuguse Council in Bombay. What happened to the Church and the Bishop. Frightened to be called a Portuguese. If it wasn't for the Portuguese he would be in hell. The above mentioned are no different than the fake freedom fighters
ReplyDelete@Suresh... I totally agree with you. All those who benefitted from the Portuguese rule are sucking up to the illiterate-goonda politicians of Goa. Want proof? Nadia-Mickkey.
ReplyDeleteThey are now 'bonkan bhott'
Well Dr. Shiv Prabhu, there are idiots like Pai Vernekar, Subhash Velingkar, Anand Shet etc who are out to oppose the Portuguese goodness from Goa. It looks like the scum bag Pai Vernekar is the son of a b...tch, m...er f.....ker who is a thief, a dirt bag. Who are these fellows to tell us not to love the Portuguese. My message to these donkeys is we are going to talk good of the Portuguese who did good to the Goans and there is nothing you can do for us. I am a Goan a real Goan not like you who do not know who your father is. They have started changing history which in no way will we the Goans allow you.
ReplyDeleteWhen I 1st read this letter on the OHeraldo I felt a bit encouraged that we have such high personalities such as Dr. Shiv Prabhu who voice their bright opinions. This man is truly a progressive modern gentelman. I wish you well Sir!
ReplyDeleteI guess the Visit of the NRP Sagres was purely an re-enactment of a historical event and not a visit of Heads of State.
ReplyDeleteAdditionaly I think the Freedom Fighters were plainly silly and infantile to protest. The Portuguese did not come to re-conquer Goa.
It was purely a maritime event.Fisherman too are Mariners and so showed solidarity with sea faring Comrades.
I am still not sure what Karmali and his band of mad men were barking at and about.
All the people of Goa should know that dolts like Naguesh Karmali, Pai Vernekar, Subhash Velingkar live in world of fantasy. Do not imitate these idiots or try to pacify these donkeys. These are the thieves who have changed history by adding and deleting what they like and don't like. Learn the real history and then come and talk. The Portuguese never harrassed the good Goans but the evildoers like Karmali, Pai Vernekar etc. They never made Goans slaves. Kudos to the Fisherfolk of Vasco. Well done. But make sure that if dolts like Karmali, Pai Vernekar, Subhash Velingkar come to your place put a garland of chappals round their neck and drive them away.
ReplyDeletefishermem show the way.one time in history the shepherherds showed the way to the manger, WHAT DO THE THE POLITICIANS SHOW WAY TO? CORRRUPTION .. answer it it yourself, you will find the answer? DOES THE CHURCH IN GOA STAND FOR CORRUPTION,OR TRUTH OF CHRIST, SPECIALLY IN SOUTH GOA?
