PANJIM: Councillors affiliated to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Vasco have demanded action against the party's Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco alleging that he worked against the interests of the NCP during the municipal polls.
Addressing a press conference, a seven member panel of Vasco MLA and state NCP president Jose Phillip D'Souza criticized Pacheco for destabilizing the party's chances in the port city.
"We had floated the panel to strengthen the party here in Vasco. However, Mickky has worked with the BJP and Congress in order to defeat the NCP here," Neny D'Souza, wife of the Vasco MLA said.
The NCP councillors also claimed that they had written a complaint to party chief Sharad Pawar regarding this matter.
When asked about the opposition to her candidature for the post of council chairperson, D'Souza replied, "I made it very clear from the start that I am not interested in occupying the seat of the chairperson. All I want is to work for my ward."
When queried if the NCP councillors would be ready to work under Pacheco as party president in case the high command took such a decision, D'Souza replied, "It depends on Jose Phillip. If he is ready to work with Mickky as president, then we are fine by it. It all depends on whether Mickky will work to strengthen party and work towards growing the NCP."
Among those present at the press conference were Jerry Fernandes, Sunita Landez, Lavina D'Souza, Fiola Rego, Premanand Nanoskar and Jose Phillip's elder brother Pascoal. (TNN)
