PANJIM: Bombay High Court at Goa’s Justice N.A. Britto today directed that a fresh notice be issued to Adv. Aires Rodrigues in the petition filed by Crime Branch Police Inspector Sunita Sawant challenging his acquittal in the 2004 Ribandar Church case.
Justice Britto today also directed that this time the notice on Adv. Rodrigues be served by Police Inspector Sunita Sawant herself and adjourned the matter to 6th December.
Justice Britto also told the Special Public Prosecutor that the notice on Adv. Rodrigues need not be served at his office or residence but could be served where ever he was found.
The Old Goa Police yesterday sent the last notice unserved back to the High Court stating that several attempts were made to serve the notice on Adv. Aires Rodrigues but that his residence was found locked.
The police who are pre-occupied with IFFI and St Francis Xavier novenas were given less than 24 hours to serve the notice on Adv. Rodrigues. Though Justice Briito had directed on 22nd Nov morning the issuance of the notice to Adv. Rodrigues it reached the Old Goa Police Station only on 23rd late evening.
Adv. Aires Rodrigues had declined to accept the first High Court notice sent to him as it was not addressed to ‘Aires Rodrigues’ but ‘Aries Rodrigues’.
Meanwhile the government has reportedly decided to sack the Special Public Prosecutor Mahesh Amonkar appointed to handle the case against Adv. Rodrigues.
This comes after senior officials at the Secretariat expressed concern that even after the case having gone through five hearings Adv. Rodrigues has not yet even even served the High Court notice.
Every hearing of the petition filed against Adv. Rodrigues is costing the State Rs 7000 by way of fees being paid to the two Special Public Prosecutors Mahesh Amonkar and Milena Pinto who been appointed by the Government to handle the case against Adv. Rodrigues.
The government has reportedly now decided to appoint Adv. M.S.Joshi as the Special Public Prosecutor to handle the petition filed against Adv. Rodrigues.

ReplyDeleteCome on! You advocates and solicitors grab the opportunity of being Public Prosecuters. The doors of corruption and loot is knocking on your door. If the previous two advocates could make 7000 x 5 hearings = 35000/- without even serving the notice in proper order use your brains the aspiring ones how to spell the name wrong or even try and address to different countries where Aires lived before fighting for social causes in Goa. What an administrative blunder by the uneducated and well qualified illiterate bunch ruling my homeland Goa.

ReplyDeleteWhat you have stated is correct, but, this site is only to help you get your complaint to the top police officer in your State. After that, you have to follow up with all the proofs.
This helps only when the lower cadres of the police play truant, and not otherwise. Kiran Bedi has no powers to solve your actual problems, she just will let the top cop in the State know that someone has a complaint.
