VASCO: Indian Navy is facing stiff resistence at Baina for their plans to acquire Pequino and Grand Zuvem island . Navy says they want to acquire both these places as per the report of Central agencies. But locals are opposing the idea. Navy has already asked Govt to hand over these islands. Navy says they have no other interest in the property other than the security concerns.
Pequeno Zuvem island is 2,78,525 sq mts whereas Grand Zuvem island is 5,28,525 sq mts. Grand Zuvem belongs to a private party. Central Intelligence Agency had revised security following terror threat. Rear Admiral Sudhir Pillai clarified on all the fronts. “We have these islands which have been uninhabited” Said Pillai.
He also said that the Navy is working with the people to prevent anything happening from the seawards, and that in the recent assessment the Navy has been asked to provide security for the approaches from the seaway and for that reason they have been asked to occupy these islands. However some people claim that the Navy wants the islands for their own benefits.
Pillai clarified that the Navy’s intentions are clear, they won’t keep silent as per the instructions from the Central Intelligence Agency. Pillai also assured full cooperation with the fisherman and the locals in the vicinity. “The navy has not malified intentions and we are not looking for a real estate, it is purely for security purposes and will be moderated by the state government
I doubt their intention to obtain these islands is honest; the needs of the Local Goans must be met first. Goa does not need a naval or army base. Considering their use in the past of these islands, for drunken picnics and drunken parties what type of security will they provide from there? There are seaworthy vessels that can patrol the shores. There are also floating docks that can be used instead of these islands.
ReplyDeleteLikewise, take the Island at Mobor owned by the looter of South Goa, Luizinho Faleiro. This was government property which the son of Luizinho transferred on his own name and not in the name of his father. Then we will see how this Luizinho reacts. Where is the voice of the government in stopping the Navy? They gave the Dabolim airport without any resistance. The Navy should be packed to the Sea Bird project and only do routine patrolling on Goan Coast. Should we call this Goan Navy with separate identity?
ReplyDeleteNavy Pillai is a lier. Navy wants the island for their enjoyment. Navy is another indian organisation that is our to loot Goa and the Goans. We do not even need the navy in Goa.
ReplyDeleteTill such time, by the grace of Almighty God and through the intersession of St. Francis Xavier the protector of Goa, nobody has even dared to bother us with any threats. Now this Navy is trying to say that these islands are for security sake. Can they define in which way they protect the State from terrorism. This is another botheration for the Goans in taking all the beautiful islands of Goa. All the Vascoites should join in hand and fight for our rights not to bow down to the Indian Navy. Do the high command in New Delhi sitting and watching the show and plights of the Goans, how far we can tolerate our patience. Should we be mute and patient, like an old sheep waiting to be slaughtered? There is limit for everything.
