GRP A PUNISHMENT CELL FOR ERRING POLICE PERSONNEL

PANJIM: The Goa Reserve Police (GRP), the Siberia for errant policemen, is brimming with inspectors. With police inspector, Mr Nolasco Raposa becoming the latest entrant to this department, the number of PIs now ‘serving time’ in the GRP has gone to four, not to mention a police sub-inspector, who got embroiled in a case with international ramifications.
Mr Gurudas Gaude from Old Goa police station was transferred to the GRP because he delayed in taking action against Health Minister, Mr Vishwajeet Rane on a complaint filed by Advocate Aires Rodrigues. Mr Rane was accused of threatening the advocate with dire consequences.
When PI, Mr Ram Asare made an application to be relieved from his posting in the Anti-Narcotics Cell, little did he expect to be transferred to the GRP, where the most important task is probably supporting other policemen on security detail.
Mr Asare had hardly spent 15 days at the GRP, when he got into a conflict with his boss SP, Mr Veenu Bansal, who is presently facing a probe for allegedly using a patrol boat for a fishing trip for his guest and family. Recently, Mr Asare was shifted to the special cell for counter-terrorism.
PI, Mr Edwin Colaco had a clean run at the Colva police station until Mr Calvert Gonsalves decided to release a music CD, which enraged parishioners. A large group of parishioners marched to Mr Gonsalves’ house and stoned it, while Mr Colaco did nothing. This cost him his post and a transfer to GRP.
For PSI, Mr Nerlon Albuquerque, the route to the GRP was indeed a long one. He was first suspended on charges of not conducting a proper investigation into the mysterious death of Scarlet Keeling. He was later dismissed from service but reinstated after a High Court overturned the dismissal.
Lastly, PI, Mr Raposo finds himself in the GRP for mistaking a beauty parlour for a brothel. The PI conducted a series of raids but made the mistake of not adhering to the stringent provisions of the law.
Apart from attending office at Altinho, the PIs have been assigned to menial tasks like providing security cover to the ministers, Chief Minister and the Goa Police Headquarters. They are also called upon to provide support to police during Liberation Day, Independence Day, IFFI, Old Goa feast or any other bandobast, or morchas, dharnas, or any law and order problem that may arise. Who are the erring officers? only the ones who act as per law and go against the politicians?

  2. GRP is a place for a honest officer like Raposo? He should have been awarded with a Gold Medal for raiding prostitutes or trying to put an end to immoral activities. It all depends who is whose boss in the police department. The officers with shining shoes know well who polishes best. The corrupt officers are left to go to Casinos and enjoy free doles and everything.

  3. PI N.Raposo is a honest and hardworking officer. He has been punished because he did not toe the line of the illiterate-goonda politicians who patronise the brothel and the madam who has them in her skirt.
As for Gurudas Gaude... he is a scoundrel and a chor. He is close to Pandurang THE GONVDDO Madkaikar and this Gonvddo used to use Gaude to do his dirty work.
Gaude is also known to be very corrupt and a drunkard. Don't know about his other vices but there are rumours about his weakness for the fairer sex just like his mentor Madkaikar.
PI Edwin was sandwiched between his call to his duty and the pressure of Mickkey Mouse. As such he had to pay the price.

  4. I agree with the views of Alcantra. The erring officers in todays world are those who act as per law and go against the illegal wishes of the Superior officers and politicians. The officers posted at GRP need to be saluted for standing their ground even in turbulent weathers.
