7 DAYS JAIL FOR JHARKHAND DRIVER FOR RASH & NEGLIGENT DRIVING

MARGAO: The special judicial magistrate, Mr S B Faria on Wednesday sentenced Arun Kumar, 29, a truck driver from Jharkhand but presently residing at Sanvordem, in connection with a case of rash and negligent driving. The incident had occurred near Chandor market on November 10
Mr Faria sentenced him to undergo seven days simple imprisonment and pay a fine of ` 1500 and on default of payment to undergo 15 days simple imprisonment. The magistrate also ordered that his licenses be suspended for seven days under section 20 of Motor Vehicle Act. According to the prosecution, the accused while proceeding from Sanvordem to Guddimol rammed his truck into an electricity pole, thereby causing a damage of ` 3200. He was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
He was charged by Maina Curtorim police under sections 184 and 185 of Motor Vehicle Act and convicted by the magistrate under the same sections.

  1. What a softy touch of justice, the drunk driving a vehicle which in the wrong hands can be a lethal weapon. A joke of the law. He gets seven days prison and suspended licence for seven days. Lucky no lives were lost, this man should be kicked out of the state before he kills others.

    Seven days is too little for these ghantis who come to Goa and drink uncontrollably. He could have killed someone. These drivers, specially those driving mining trucks have already killed and maimed so many Goans. They should be put minimum for a month in jail and then barred from driving in Goa.
