APPOINTMENT OF ADVOCATE GENERAL by Adv. Aires Rodrigues, Ribandar

The government should consider a constitutional amendment to the manner in which an Advocate General of the State is selected and appointed. Like the appointment of the Lokayukta and Chairman of other authorities such as the State Public Service Commission, the selection of the Advocate General should be in consultation and consensus with the Leader of Opposition and possibly with the other recognized political parties.
It has to be ensured that the best legal brain in the State is entrusted with the task. The Advocate General must definitely be from amongst the designated Senior Advocates. An Advocate General occupies a very high constitutional post and should act as the guardian of the State while tendering legal advice to the government. He should never be partisan nor get involved in any petty party politics. By being above board would ensure that his legal advice would be sans any prejudice or vested consideration.

  1. You are wrong Airesbab. The Advocate General of Goa is appointed to protect the Government of Goa but who is running the government? Crooks and chors so whom will he protect? Common man? Only his masters and not the interests of Goa or Goans.
