POINGUINIM: Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Monday urged the people not to come to the streets and cause undue hardships by staging road-blockade agitations on the highway project.
He was addressing the gathering during the inaugural function of motorized boat to ferry people from Maxem to Galgibag. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Minister for Transport and River Navigation Sudin Dhavalikar inaugurated the motorized boat.
Addressing the large gathering, Chief Minister Kamat stated that the Union government has been requested to exempt locals residing within a 40-km radius from paying the toll along the four-lane highway.
That apart, he has also demanded concession passes for daily commuters. Kamat said he has been prevailing with the Union government to take up the construction of Talpona, Galgibag and Zuari parallel bridges on priority.
“Union Minister Kamal Nath has responded positively and has shown keen interest to take the construction of these three bridges on priority,” said Kamat.
Others who were present on the occasion were Canacona MLA Vijay Pai Khot, Poinguinim MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, Poinguinim ZP member Daya Pagi, former minister Isidore Fernandes, sarpanchas of Loliem and Poinguinim and others.
It may be recalled that there was a need for a bridge on Galgibag and Talpona River, which was a constant demand by the locals and the land was acquired to construct the bridges by the Union government about 30 years ago.
Upon construction of these two bridges, the road travel distance would have been shortened by over 12 kms, but the concerned authorities reportedly failed to prevail upon the Union government in Delhi for construction of these two bridges.
Then Union Minister of Highways Sripad Naik had visited Loliem with a team of officials and addressed the people that he will lay the foundation stone for the construction of Galgibag and Talpona bridges within three months. (HD)
This indicates that Chorchill and Dhavalikar met with an agreement. Sudin looted first and now Chorchill. Share the loot and make people quiet. Is the NH widening affecting his constituency? No. If he has to demolish his house for road widening, will he keep mum? And why should be we pay toll?
