CHURCHILL'S FEARS OF NATIONAL HIGHWAYS OF 6 LANES

PANJIM: The PWD Minister, Mr Churchill Alemao on Sunday said the broadening and four-laning of the two national highways, namely NH 17 and NH4A, will be kept at 35 and 45 metres width, putting to rest speculation of a possible six-lane highway passing through the state.
Mr Alemao said that at present the survey work on the alignment of the two highways is in progress, which will be completed shortly. He said a meeting has been scheduled with the National Highways Authority of India, along with officials from the PWD and other officials to discuss alignment of the highways.
Replying to a query on speculations of a six-lane highway through the state, Mr Alemao said the proposal was made long back, however, the government has decided to go ahead with a width of 45 metres, where there are no structures, and a width of 35 metres, where there are residential, religious and commercial structures. 2. I believe in miracles but not in Goan politicians. These highways will benefit criminals that come in and out of the state, as they do on the konkan railway.
