PANJIM: When DySP Sammy Tavares wrote a song on the police, he merely wanted to express himself through music and enlighten people about a cop's life. The department, however, wants to make this song work for them. After listening to it, Goa Police permitted the DySP to release a CD with the police song hoping it would help them connect with a larger number of people.

"At times certain messages given from the official platform have a lesser impact because of the 'us versus them' feeling. Tavares' articulation of the basic ethos with which Goa police essentially functions will reduce the gap between 'us and them' and bring home the sentiments expressed in a more acceptable form. We are happy that Tavares has used his innate talent to educate people about their safety and security and the efforts made by the police on the street," DGP Bhimsen Bassi said. Tavares has now produced a music video — Police Porjek (police for the people) — comprising nine Konkani songs and comedy sequences in which he sings and also acts.
The DySP, who is not a trained singer, explains that he loves the uniform and it was natural for him to combine this with his passion for writing songs and pen one on the police. "It is something I feel strongly about. I decided to sing the song because I felt that I can express the emotions, aspirations, commitment and destiny of a policeman whose primary job is to serve the people and country in a much better way than anyone else," Tavares said. SP (North) Arvind Gawas said, "Through the song, DySP Tavares reassures the people about a policeman's commitment to the safety and security of the state, even at the risk of his life. His appeal to the public to support the police will help take the Goa police message of serving the people selflessly to a larger audience." (TOI)
This cd is surley not going to be a "HIT".
ReplyDeleteThe image and role of the corrupt Police are deeply etched in the minds of all Goans. They are not known as saviours or Angels .In fact speak to any Goan and they will confirm that they are all a corrupt lot.The whole bunch of them.
I think school kids would solve cases much faster than the Goa Police can.
I am sure the Goan Tiatrists will have a field day as soon as they hear it.
Sammy comes from a decent Tiatrist family but he should not have joined this department and get himself on the list of rogues. He would have made a very good and fine Goan actor. Even if Sammy sings praises of the cops, it is of no use. First he has to show or prove to the world that the department is not corrupt. Live example we have is Chandrakant Salgaonkar, the master of Rogues and corrupts.
ReplyDeleteSammy is less controversial as is known publicly. But he is in the dirty department of Gua Pulis who are known for high-handedness, insufficiency and slaves of the politicians. The drugs has landed them in more bad shape.
ReplyDeleteWhatever Sammy sings is what he still perceives the image of a Policeman. There are many who are straight, but when many on the top are rotten, the whole basket is rotten.
ReplyDeleteIf Sammy had guts, he should have sung one or two songs about the corrupt police officials who have tainted the name of the Gua Pulis. Is Mickey Mouse going to release another CD about how the ministers are fighting for Goa's cause and how they are fighting to save Goa???
ReplyDeleteI appreciate Sammy has come out with this CD, lets give them a chance to improve and help the Goans. If all the policemen change their bad habbit then our Goa will be like heaven. The politicians make them bad under pressure. But they should also realise that they have vow before they accept the Khaki dress. I appeal to the policemen show your good image and do not bend under pressure from the politicians. As someone said Sammy comes from a decent family I respect you and your family. One person cannot change all but he can make a difference by asking others to do. If all the good police form an organisation to fight against the corrupt police that will be great. I will name them "Nizgoenkar policemen" and I will be the first one to salute them. I hope Mr. Deshpande is reading my comments and if he can pass it to the other police force as what the citizens want from them. Guys there are lot of good police in Goa, but have to bend their head due to corrupt politicians.... let give them a chance they are also our brothers and I hope one day they will join us.
ReplyDeleteLets face the truth, Do not mix up polictics with hobby....Encourage him for his good work rather than bringing politics in between. Educated people praise for the good work of others. Before giving those stupid comments think if it is worth!!!
ReplyDeleteLet us hope the CD is a drive for improvement, Many honest are ashame of the corrupt.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost I would congratulate DySP for bringing out the CD on the police force. If there is a song depicting the corrupt police officers and the politicians then it will be a super hit. He should distribute his first CD to all the corrupt police officers and politicians.
ReplyDeleteSammy can sing! Good now we have a singing cop!
ReplyDeleteThere is an 84 year old man called Martinho Fernandes of Morgado, Goa Velha who claims that when Sammy was a PSI at Goa Velha police station he alleges he was tortured by Sammy and his subordinate when he went to lodge a complaint. He was abused, he says, kicked, beaten and then handcuffed to a chair th ewhole day without food or water and was released only when his son came from Panjim with an advocate at 6.00 pm. Fernandes says he has newspaper clippings of the incident in 1994.
ReplyDeleteWho says Sammy is not corrupt? If so can he answer my three questions! Why he was running in the middle of night to meet congress Agent Fr.Jose Antone D'costa (present Parish Priest of Vasco) to change his Transfer Order from lesser profitable Police Stations to lucrative one and secondly why he is accepting haftas from various illegal establishments and criminals and lastly what was his recruitment criteria in Police department.
