MAPUSA: Praveen Rajani, a native of Gujarat, who was involved in many frauds and had cheated people in and around Mapusa, finally landed in Mapusa police net. According to Mapusa PI, Mr Rajeshkumar, the accused was a professional offender and used to try all possible ways and means of duping people and had succeeded on many occasions.
Mr Rajeshkumar informed that the accused was mostly dealing in furniture making and in this regard he would often earn the trust of people, take furniture set orders, take some advance money and disappear and as he would also change addresses it was very difficult for the police to nab or keep a track of him.
It was also pointed out by the police officer that the accused would even publish advertisements on newspapers, get work orders and cheat people. It was also revealed that the accused would change addresses and hoodwink people and police by travelling to Gujarat or other states.
On August 1, this year, the accused had taken an order regarding new furniture and on that pretext had taken ` 43,000 from Mr Nitin Karekar from Mapusa and later disappeared. Mr Karekar had filed an FIR to this effect.
However, PSI, Mr Nitin Halarnkar, who was investigating the case under the supervision of PI, Mr Rajeshkumar traced all such bogus activities resorted to by the accused and kept a watchful eye waiting for the right opportunity to nab him.
A few days back the accused had arrived in Goa and was staying at Santa Cruz. By the time Mapusa police learnt about this, the accused changed his address to Porvorim.
However not waiting to be undone this time round, a police team led by PSI, Mr Halarnkar in a late night development on Saturday successfully nabbed the accused from Porvorim. The accused is presently in custody of Mapusa police. PSI, Mr Halarnkar is investigating under the supervision of PI, Mr Rajeshkumar. (NT)
