INDEBTED TO PORTUGUESE by Jerry Fernandes, Saligao

I am an open-minded liberal Goan and am proud of my ancestral joint family. We cherish Hindu values but I am also grateful to the erstwhile Portuguese regime for bringing Christianity into our lives.
It is said during colonial times, there was not much development, but we felt a lot safe. If Goans still glorify the Portuguese, it was because they were absolute rulers and treated Goa as their own. They taught us good habits and made us into responsible humans. We now possess a unique ‘Indo-Latin’ culture which is a fusion of sorts, being moulded by the Portuguese.
Had it not been for the erstwhile colonialists, Goa would have been taken out piece by piece, by the neighbouring states and this beautiful state would have never existed.
We stand indebted to the Portuguese for moulding a unique culture. This is the culture of Goa and it rocks! Viva Goenkar!

In Goa,The Christians, Hindus and Muslims co-exist in harmony along with other minor religions. Each one respects the others beliefs and traditions.
We all share many religious events of each other together.Holi is a Hindu festival...but like Divali it is also shared by Christians and Muslims.
Many Goan Hindus tell me they felt much more secure with the Portuguese.
So it is purely the Hindu Radicals and madmen that are trying to create trouble of Goa`s Past.
Goa`s past history and association with the Portuguese cannot be undone as it has already been done.It can only move forward now.

  2. Well said Jerry Fernandes almost every Goan will echo your thoughts, Goa today should have been a model state. But in turn it is the worst state in India infested with corruption and every crime in the book. Moreover criminals are acquitted to recommit their crimes. Goa has been destroyed beyond recognition. That is why every law abiding Goan in frustration embraces the Portuguese past memory.

All the people of Goa should know that dolts like Naguesh Karmali, Pai Vernekar, Subhash Velingkar live in world of fantasy. Do not imitate these idiots or try to pacify these donkeys. These are the thieves who have changed history by adding and deleting what they like and don't like. Learn the real history and then come and talk. The Portuguese never harrassed the good Goans but the evildoers like Karmali, Pai Vernekar etc. They never made Goans slaves.

We have animals like Karmali, Pai Vernekar and others who don't even know that today they are Goans because the Portuguese kept them so. B...s...tds would have been Maharashtrians "zalach pahije" or ghanttis today. These ungrateful creatures should rot in the hell they deserve.
