BANGLADESHI ARRESTED NEAR NAVAL DEFENCE AREA

PANJIM: Just ahead of US President Barak Obama’s India visit on November 6, Goa police arrested Bangladeshi national who was found in the restricted naval area. However, for the reasons best known to them the information was not leaked until today.
The immigrant from Bangladesh identified as 25 years old Rehman Naushir was found at a defence area near Bogda in Vasco during ‘Sagar Kavach’ mock drill performed across the state in October-end. “The Indian Navy officials immediately nabbed him and began his interrogation. A complaint was filed by Indian Navy Commander Saurav Mukherjee with the Harbour police station on November 1,” said the sources.
A case under section 447 criminal trespass of the Indian Penal Code and section 14 of the Foreigners Act has been registered against the Bangladeshi.
Sources further confirmed that Rehman was thoroughly interrogated by Goa Police Anti-Terrorist Squad, CID team and Home Ministry officials wherein the former confessed he entered India without any legitimate travel documents.
He is currently lodged in Sada sub-jail at Vasco.  The security exercise was launched to check the preparedness of the defense agencies in countering sea borne terror in the backdrop of the US President’s visit. Police officials are however tight-lipped on the matter.
Police spokesperson Superintendent of Special Branch Goa Police Atmaram Deshpande was however unavailable for his comments.(HD)
