PANJIM: From Feb to August this year the Goa Government has paid Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak Rs. 31, 81,000.
This has been revealed by the Law department to Adv. Aires Rodrigues under the Right to Information Act.
With this the total amount spent by the Goa Government on Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak since his appointment in Feb 2005 has amounted to over rupees five crores.
Adv. Aires Rodrigues has claimed that though Goa was the smallest state it has India’s highest paid Advocate General.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that the Advocate General’s of Maharastra, Gujarat and Karnataka are never paid more than Rs 50, 000/- a month.
Adv. Rodrigues has also stated that the Advocate Generals of Maharastra, Karnataka and Gujarat appear in the High Court only in constitutional and important matters, but that Mr. Subodh Kantak of appearing in all sorts of matters just because he gets Rs 8000/- every time he stands up in the High Court.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that it was an irony that Goa’s Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak was being paid more than any Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and even the President of India.
