PANJIM: The family of 26-year-old deceased Suvarna Naik, along with an NGO, Savera Trust, on Wednesday demanded that the police register a murder case against her husband Brijesh Naik and his family for her death.
Addressing a press conference in the city, president of Savera Trust Tara Kerkar accused the police of shielding Naik and his family as one of his relatives works in the police department. Arguing that no woman with a six-month-old baby would commit suicide, Kerkar said, "Along with Suvarna's family, we demand that the police register a case under Section 302 (murder) against Brijesh and his family."
Kerkar alleged that Suvarna was strangulated with her own mangalsutra and killed. "When I saw Suvarna's body, she had no mangalsutra around her neck. We suspect that she was strangulated to death with it, Kerkar said, adding that the Naik family should be asked to produce the mangalsutra.
The press conference was addressed by Kerkar along with Suvarna's father Kalidas Naik, brother Naresh and sisters Jyosna and Namita.
Meanwhile, after consulting various NGOs, the Panjim police have given custody of Suvarna's 18-month-old baby to Apna Ghar. "We could not keep the baby with us, because if something happens to her, the Naik family would blame us," Naresh said.
In the above news item, '18-month old baby' should read as '6-month old baby girl'. Where as GT said 6 year old baby.
ReplyDeleteThe deceased husband Brijesh is running a whole sale shop below his flat next to Vishal Mart (near Samrat Theatre).
Or very next to Samrat Restaurant which is own by his Uncle.
The former Centurion bank, Centurion Bank of Punjab, HDFC bank etc located belw their flat. Presently Dhanlaxmii Bank.
It was also said he rented out 7 flats( plus the bank premises). They also have Sai Lodge above their shop.
When they have so much, don't really understand why they wanted more (if it was a dowry death as accused).
All four (inlcuding Father, mother and brother) are in the police custody now. Both brothers are young and in their 20's.
