VALPOI: The survey of parents, conducted in Satari taluka on the issue of medium of instruction at the primary level, found that parents from the interior villages of Satari prefer Marathi; however, many parents stated that due to the absence of English-medium primary schools in the coastal villages, most of the parents have no choice but to enroll their children in the government primary schools, which has Marathi as medium of instruction.
In Valpoi town area, a majority of parents whose children are studying in anganwadi or nursery say that they would opt for English as medium of instruction at primary level. Out of 24 parents interviewed on the MoI issue, 17 favoured English as medium of instruction while seven said that they would opt for Marathi as medium of instruction for their wards. Incidentally, all Muslim parents interviewed favoured English as the medium of instruction.
Mr Dhulo Kharwat, a government employee, said that his daughter is studying in nursery and he will admit her in an English-medium primary school. “English is the need of the hour and if my daughter gets primary education in English medium, then she will easily cope with the high school syllabus,” he said.
Ms Neeta Andrade, a housewife, said that she would enroll her daughter in an English-medium school. “It’s my dream that my children should learn English and be fluent in the language,” she said.
Mr Dashrath Mandrekar, a journalist, said that he supports Marathi as medium of instruction, and added that his son would be enrolled in a primary school where medium of instruction is Marathi. He said that if a child learns initially in his mother tongue then he will understand the subject. He said that although he studied in Marathi medium, he can now speak and write in English.
Ms Arifa Shaikh, housewife, a mother of two children one of whom is undergoing pre-primary education, said that she would opt for English language during his primary education. She said, “Medium of instruction for my child will be English as I have noted that for any official correspondence English is a must.” She also said that her children would do well in high school if they have their foundation in English.
Mr Ramdas Shirodker, a councillor informed that his five-year-old son is studying in UKG and he would enroll him in a Marathi-medium school in primary. “By initially taking education in his mother tongue, the child understands well and he or she values our culture and tradition which is very important today,” said Mr Shirodker.
It is very comforting to see that the Residents of Valpoi are "Forward Thinkers" rather than the backward thinkers like the BBSM , Freedom Fighters & the Maharastrian "WITCH", Shushila Kakodkar a.k.a. TAI.
ReplyDeleteWell done Valpoikars
The people of Valpoi ,Valpoicar's are right for taking a pro English stand !and is good for thier future ,the BBSM will only understand when thier own son/wards fail in International competative exams of IELTS ,TOEFL etc ...and I dont really understand the need for teaching Morati language in Amche Goy! for what BBSM?
ReplyDeleteWhat I feel in interior areas be it valpoi or any other parts of Goa where there is no facility for English as primary education most of the parents are forced to admit their wards in regional language school. It is not like how it is portrayed by some of BBSM scoundrels that parents are in favour of their mother tongue as MOI. These people has lost thier credibility in society and some how they want to come out from their hibernation to show that they still exist in this world. Mr. Abdulla these people are hypocrate they are out to keep the backward people in the same backyard for thier selfish goals whereas their own grandchildren have lucrative education in their life. This is complete hypocracy and I would say there is no doubt of neighbouring maratha state for their hidden agenda as that is happening in Belgaum.
ReplyDeleteIf there was a referendum in Goa for Goans to chose languages for their children, English and Konkani would be the only two languages. That too with Roman Script,
ReplyDeleteAbdulla Khan and Menino de Valpoi its good to read about your articles about rest of Goa especially Salcete but let me reming you that one of the biggest scoundrels and rogues on the political scenario in Goa is in our Backyard namely BABA yes Baba Vishwajeet Rane and his senior Pratapsihn Rane !!! ReplyDelete1. Those 7 Parents that opted for Marathi? were they Goan or Maharastrians?
ReplyDelete2. Mr Dashrath Mandrekar! i have a Question for you? Since when did Marathi become Goa's Mother tongue? A Journalist huh, why don't you go to Maharastra and keep reporting on the Shiv Sena's there, Shame on you if you are a Goan, who does not call Konkani as your Mother Tongue...
3. Mr Ramdas Shirodker,Mother Tongue again? Shirodker meaning your ancestors came from Shiroda..., why Marathi my friend? When did it ever become the Mother Tongue of Goa? Shame on you too, your talking about Culture? So i guess you follow Shivaji Maharaj?
Mr. Abdulla Khan, really appreciate your hard work and hat’s of to you and the True Goan People of Valpoi,
I love my Konkani and am Proud of it too, if needed would even Die for my Mother Tongue “Konkani”, will want ever Goan Child to Read and Write Konkani, but where Education is Concern English is my first Choice…as I have brought Goa to the World, so will the Younger Generation and the Generations to come… Viva Goa, Viva Goenkar!
This Tai Shashikala and rest of mamas and shitty freedom fighters should fight for corruptions, and justices in Goa. So many peoples are killed in Goa cases Scarlett, Cipriano and lately Mevin. In this killing politicans and police are involved. Fight for justices for these people. If BJP and BBSM and arseholes freedom fighters can't fight for corruptions then go to hell. You people are spoiling peace in Goa. Iam not against any language. I love and konkani but still our education should be in English. If we study in English atleast we can get job anywhere in the world. To get a Government job is Goa we have to bribe our ministers. If you don't bribe you don't get job.Marathi is not Goan language No body should vote for the national parties like congress, BJP, MGP and NCP.
