CHURCHILL STARTS HIS SAME OLD GAMES: NOW THREATENS TO QUIT OVER MOI

PANJIM: The Medium of Instruction issue went into another tailspin late Friday evening, with senior Congress leaders reacting furiously over what they perceive as attempts to sabotage the May 25 decision of the Government to give grants to English.
As soon news spread that the Government appointed Monitoring Committee, sought clarifications on the decision from the Cabinet and referred the circular issued to the Law Department, Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godinho spoke to members of the AICC, involved in Goa affairs.
PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, wasted no time in speaking to Chief Minister Kamat to tell him that would go ahead and leave if the Cabinet was pressurised to clarify to a Monitoring Committee, a decision already taken.
He said, “This is nothing but an attempt to sabotage the move to give grants to English. The Government should not allow this. The Cabinet will not accept this”.
Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godinho who is in Delhi got in touch with AICC officials including Ahmed Patel and briefed him about the situation. When contacted, sources in the AICC said that they would speak to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and advise him to consult the High Command before any further decision is taken regarding MoI. - HD
