CS WRITES TO UNION HOME MINISTRY FOR THREE IPS OFFICIALS FOR GOA

PANJIM: The state Chief Secretary, Mr Sanjay Kumar Shrivastava has written to the Union home ministry, the cadre controlling authority of Indian Police Service officials, seeking placement of three IPS officials in the state to man various vacant posts in the police department.
The state police force has been facing shortage of staff at the senior supervisory level ever since three senior police officials were transferred including the deputy inspector general of police, Mr Ravindra Yadav, senior superintendent of police, Mr V V Chaudhary and SP (ANC), Mr Venu Bansal.
While the cadre controlling authority has sent one replacement in the form of Mr Vijay Singh (SP), none has been sent to man the posts vacated by the other two senior IPS officials. Besides, some senior state police officials working in the capacity of SPs have been told to hold additional charge.
The SP training, Mr Shekhar Prabhudessai, who is principal of Police Training School at Valpoi, has been given the charge of the post of SP (traffic), which till recently was held by the North Goa SP, Mr Arvind Gawas. There is no body to look after the charge of SSP and the DIG.
Meanwhile, the state home department has a proposal to appoint a senior police official in the rank of superintendent of police to oversee the recruitment of the subordinate staff in the state police force.
The SP would be in-charge of recruitment of constabulary, police sub-inspectors, besides their promotions up to the level of inspectors, said the sources.
Besides, there is also a proposal to upgrade the state fire and emergency department by recruiting 300 additional staff of various categories, including two divisional fire officers, sub-officers, leading firemen, firemen, driver-cum-operators, etc, said the sources.
