POLICE UNDER PRESSURE FROM NGOs ARREST RASIKAs HUSBAND

PANJIM: One month after 30-year-old Rasika Kutikar's body was found at her house in Mandur, Dongrim, the Agacaim police on Wednesday-under pressure from NGOs-arrested her husband, Guruprasad Kutikar, 36, and mother-in-law Jayshree Kutikar, 70, in connection with her death.
"We have arrested them under Section 498A (harassment), 304B (harassment causing death), 306 (abetment to crime) read with 34 IPC (common intention)," said Agacaim PI Vishwesh Karpe.
On Wednesday morning, an NGO, Savera Trust, along with around 150 people held a morcha outside the Agacaim police station and demanded the arrest of the accused. "It was just a three-month-old marriage, so the Kutikar family should immediately return to Rasika's family all the gold ornaments and other items given to them at the time of marriage," said Savera Trust president Tara Kerkar
Meanwhile, deputy collector Sabaji Shetye recorded the statement of Rasika's mother Sumitra Velip. After Rasika's body was found by the police, they sent the corpse for a postmortem, which revealed that she had died after consuming a poisonous substance. On June 9, the Agacaim police registered an offence against Guruprasad and his family. The police action was initiated based on a complaint by Rasika's brother Vijendra Velip from Caurem, Quepem. - TNN
