DNA TESTS CONFIRM YOGITA NAIK WAS KILLED BY MAHANAND NAIK

PANJIM: In the Yogita Naik murder case, an expert from central forensic science laboratory, Hyderabad, has concluded through DNA profiling that the body recovered was of the victim, who was allegedly killed by Mahanand Naik in 2009.
During the trial before the sessions court at Panjim, a senior scientific officer said that the tissue sent by the police for conducting the DNA test belonged to the 'biological female offspring of Yogita's parents'. In May 2009, the police department had submitted the body parts of the victim for DNA profiling.
According to the chargesheet filed by the police, in January 2009, the accused had taken the victim to a cashew plantation at Morlem and strangulated her to death. The police also stated that Mahanand robbed her gold ornaments valued at ` 80,000. The accused had befriended the victim under the false pretext of marrying her.
